With it being close to Tet again, what type of cards should we be looking for? How many do we need?

David

Found one store on the bay, but as they wanted AU10.50 for it I'm not recomending it.

I know people in Asia who traded me two of these cards, a calligraphy brush and book for a couple of my extra firefly coins so they can't be that expensive. I'll ask around some of the places around Tampa and see what I can find.

I posted something in the FireFlyProps Forum about the trials and tribulations with the metal cards. Here is the link, thanks again to keelhauler for posting it while my computer was all silly and blowing up power supplies.

100X Chinese Talisman Fengshui Golden Card Kwan-Yin [fs-ot5] - $39.90 : Sunrise Imports , Wholesale Beads Novelty Toy costume Jewellery Bargain Store

The fronts are as correct as I have ever found, the backs are totally different, but if you weather them or totally change/cover them up, don't think it'll matter much.

Update on the metal cards: Sunrise Imports could not get the post office to find my cards either, so they are replacing them for me, for free. Hooray! Only problem is that they are now coming from China, not Australia, so I've got another 20 day wait on my hands.

Uhm... remember when I said it would be 20 days? That was a gross over estimation of the Chinese postal service. Or maybe the USPS. In any case, I finally got them and would be happy to share. Please PM your address and I will send several out, free of charge. They're very shiny, literally, and the suggested weathering method is black spray paint and steel wool or sanding to the desired look. Thanks for being so patient.

The cards went out yesterday. Those of you in the US should see them Saturday or Monday. Please let me know if they don't show up.

UPDATE: I sent out all the spare metal tall cards I had set aside, but I might have more available later this year. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again to everyone for your support and your patience this last year.

you can also buy the odd 1 or 2 on ebay from user Indo Australia Mall.

do we know if the other 2 cards were also used ??

There were numerous cards used not just the ones people have become accustomed to seeing. If I recall the cards change per year yet many of the picture designs are reused. Its the same with the Chinese coins used, there were more than what everyone has noticed or seen up close.

Ah, good. There's a different site that has two variations of the Kwan Yin pose and text, in addition to those of the Buddha and other deities. One card has the right figure and pose, but the wrong orientation of the text. The other card has the right text orientation but a slightly different figure and pose. Getting the site to register and do things is a bit of a hassle and the minimum order is 500 of each card. Here's something interesting though: for orders over 1000, you can have them customized.
Sooooo, that raises a few questions. If anyone were to order them (read, me), would we want to have the image customized to our exact specifications or would we all be happy with making do with one or the other? This is really only an option if folk are interested in weathering an "entire" set for filming or whatnot, 52-114 cards depending on the version of the deck of cards (standard western up to a full Mah Jong set). Alternately, I could just order more of the ones I already have and send them out to whomsoever is interested. Any thoughts?
