Firefly Serenity - Rance Burgess - Silk trigger active return bolt laser pistol

I created this thread to see if anyone here has made one of these in all metal. I'm considering taking it on and I have a handful of questions. Also, if you've seen this in person or have knowledge about its disassembly, I'd love to pick your brain a bit. It looks like a very large portion of this can be waterjet cut out of 1/2" aluminum.

I'm most curious about the grip assembly. How many individual pieces is it? How is it attached to the main body?

Also, if you know how to program an arduino and can replicate the multiple light effects on the hero (see link below), I'd love to chat. Thanks in advance!

Fast forward to the 2:37 mark for the Burgess pistol:

I used arduino nano and arduino ide 1.8.19 development environment

You will need the Adafruit_NeoPixel.h library, it is easy to install via the library manager.
A little later, I will post a video of the work.

I am incredibly grateful, thank you so much. PM coming.

Demonstration.

its one of the originals. They were rentals from the now defunct 20th Century Props at the time.

Do you have any knowledge on the mechanism for opening the minidisc door? I'm trying to understand where the clasp is that latches when the door is closed. I see a hollowed out section behind the lid at the bottom, is that where the door close latch is? If so they would have routed a cable from the release ring down to the bottom and that seems like an odd choice.

That video is very old hence the low resolution. I've no idea how it was assembled or the functions. They were an oddity being what they are, metal and extremely well crafted. If I had to guess from handling it the mini disc opening inner assembly could be a solid piece, either machined as one piece or assembled as one piece, from the finger loop to the catches upper and lower. Since the top barrel assembly seems to be that way it would make sense. Just a simple catch and spring. Simple as it's function not it's creation or assembly.

I modelled and built a 3D printed one a few years ago. Had a few parts CNCd. Got all the mechanical functions working: pulling the trigger releases the side door and pulling the hammer back springs the barrels forward. Got all the electronics working as well but my personal one doesn't have a micro switch at the bottom of the side door for the change in LED ring color as I hadn't figured that part out at the time (the one I sold did).

Forgot to add, I used an Arduino (Nano I think) and Neopixel ring and strips. The only thing wrong with this one is the scope tube is too narrow and it's missing the plate on the underside. Both features I fixed on the one I sold.

I saw a really old post where you mentioned building a metal one but I hadn’t seen it until now. Absolutely stunning. That is exactly what I’m looking to do. Thank you so much for sharing, it’s a beautiful piece.
