Firefly - Kaylee costume

I'm still looking for the flower patch. I have bout a few off of ebay, and non of them looked right when they got here. Can someone please point me towards one.

Ok, here are some pics of kaylee's hart, and flower patches. I'm still looking for the flower patch, I have a hart patch that might work, but I would like to know if anyone knows about an accurate version of these 2 patches.

Wow, the last post is years old in the thread..I hunted and researched my fingers off for info on "the box" It was made in Costa Rica - not Nicaragua. It held 10 cigars, obviously Bahia Trinidads. The label shown is a Costa Rica cigar export stamp, scrubbed out to hide details. The factory in now in Nicaragua and the boxes changed when Borhani moved the production out of Costa Rica into Nicaragua. So the boxes were only made from 1996-2001. Good luck finding an original.
I am working on making a screen accurate "Kaylee strawberry box" available as a mockup prop for collectors.
My questions are;
1. With or without strawberries (would everyone prefer finding their own to fill it?)
And,
2. loose fit lid, or hinged?
Yes, it seems the lid slips around in the show, but the box the studio used originally was hinged.
Any input here, or has this horse been beaten to death?
I have been looking for months for one to add to my collection, and decided to take matters into
my own hands then thought why not make them in quantity...
Thanks for your comments.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have any up to date, leads on the hart, and flower patches, and does anyone know a good place to get the cigar box now-a-days?

Oh, and I'm still looking for the wood box too.

One possible option is...

Bahia Trinidad - Cigars International

If you notice.. the cigars are now sold in bundles wrapped, not boxes any longer. :-(

Check the facebook page for updates on where to get a cigar box prop repro

Here's the ones I have made. I can remove the latch and hinges easily, but they make displaying the boxes much nicer.

I am in the planning process of making a Steampunk Kaylee costume.
Here's a weird question: are we sure that the heart is a patch? To me it looks like it is drawn and colored on the fabric of the coveralls.
Are there any pictures out there that are not studio publicity shots or stills from the show?
And does anyone have a source for the flower patch? I can find the teddy bear but not the flower. My one source has closed her Etsy shop for the time being.

Thank in advance.

Well, I'm pretty sure the flower was a hand sewn repair of the bullet hole from her being belly shot in the pilot. That said, I think the heart is a patch, but there's no reason you couldn't hand paint yours on, or something.

Hey Bronson - I just scored a non-orange Bahia box with a flip top on eBay.

The hubster and I will be modding this to make it more accurate. It definitely has the flip top though. :)

I'm helping my girlfriend get her Kaylee costume together, I'm currently looking for the best patches available. I think I found a good bear patch, but the old link for the flower patch is broken and I'm kind of leaning toward the heart just being drawn on with a marker at the moment. Thoughts?

When I put together my wife's Kaylee costume, I found a very close heart patch at Jo-Anne's.
I found nothing even close for the flower, though, so I hand embroidered it. It's pretty small, and at how cheap the embroidery floss is, it was much cheaper than finding even a close - enough patch.

I can try to get a pic up here, if anyone is interested.

Well there's a pretty good shot of the flower patch on page 2, and worst case scenario a friend can embroider it for us, but the biggest detail I'm looking to confirm right now is whether or not the heart actually IS a patch at all.

I'm also hunting down the boots. The basic style is an engineer boot, but hers have really interesting seaming, a reinforced vamp, and stylized soles. I know some brands that make outlandish boots nowadays, but I'm not familiar with the brands from 10 years ago. Does anybody have any suggestions?

You're lucky you got one, they are getting impossibly rare. Good find!

Kaylee's patches from Firefly by NalaSerenity on Etsy

I'd have to say that the flower is actually Kaylee's attempt at closing up the bullet hole from when Dobson shot her. It's just in the shape of a pretty flower, `cuz 'Kaylee'. :)

I'd love to know what boots to go with too.
They look like tanker boots to me. If so, likely from a foreign nation.

Last year I purchased two matching cheongsam dresses off etsy. I'm hoping to have enough material between the two to make Kaylee's jacket. They aren't the exact pattern of brocade, but really close!! The brocade for her coat is definitely vintage, so you have to find a vintage source.

That looks REALLY close, if not perfect.

Bronson, thanks for the patch link, those look great. I agree that the flower was meant to cover the bullet hole, even though the actual hole was a couple inches lower in the pilot, and there's no blood stains for whatever reason.

As for the boots, I looked up tanker boots and they look to be just plain laced up military boots. Engineer boots are laceless with a slight flare at the top and a strap at the ankle. I seriously doubt hers were any kind of military, though. With the exception of SOME modern designs, military boots rarely have excessive seaming, and I've never seen a velcro strap on military boots. That and the really stylized shape of the sole and the seaming at the top, I think we're looking at motorcycle boots.
