Re: Slave-1

Outstanding stuff Mike

As someone who will be making a vac forming table in the near future i would be very interested to see the methods of the master

So I second Lee's request for pics please

Oh and thanks for the food pics by the way,

I'm bloody starving now :p

Traditionally, Do Jamaicans eat their curries with any type of Naan bread like you would an Indian curry?

Gag

Re: Slave-1

No Gag that's more Indo Caribbean thing but I make roti,
because although my mother's side is from Jamaica they
were an Indian mix. There was not as many Indians into
Jamaica compared to Trinidad N Tobago (TNT) or Guyana (GT).
In Trinidad Roti is huge because of the huge Indian influence in
the country and obviously the food. It's called "Buss up shut roti"
or affectionately known as "Buss up". It gets it's name because when
it comes off the tawa it gets clapped or busted up like a old T-shirt
it helps add to the texture.....it's amazing i can make this it's a
bit of a process though. So it's called "Buss up shut" like a busted up
shirt...of course the Trini accent sounds like "Buss up shut" LOL The
Indian name for this type of Roti is (Paratha roti) and it can be eaten with
many curried meats and vegies....in the video you will hear him say Aloo and
Channa Aloo is Potato and channa is chick pea....they are curried together and
you eat them with the roti.

So to answer your question no if you go to a Jamaican spot
you will be hard pressed to find Roti, they will know what it is
but most likely won't have it. Now if you go to a trini Roti shop
in Brooklyn then yes 100%

Re: Slave-1

Gag this one is fr you some curry chicken and Buss up.....
and curry shrimp and Aloo (Potato) with buss up.....

Re: Slave-1

Well here is my former.......don't ask no I didn't use any plans
I just made it....LOL I knew how big i wanted it and just built
it, i knew i wanted it to have a low profile and not much depth.
Just to suclk the air out a little quicker I have spent less that
$100.00 so far on the table and should finish it for $$150
maybe if I had this made I am sure it would be over $500.

Ok for the platen I used some thick MDF 3/4 inch i think
I plotted out the graph on it and drilled about 1,400 holes.
You can see in this picture the outside frame as well of the
table i built it right around the platen and trimmed it up to
fit.

Next is the platen support on the inside of the frame....

Here is the platen support on the inside finished.

Notice in this picture my index finger on the outside of the platen
marked off with pencil that thickness matches the thickness of the
platen supports you see my thumb on in the picture. This is where
the platen will get screwed to in the end.

Platen test fit just sitting on there.

Outside with the palm sander to knock down all the
exit wounds from the drill but on MDF that takes about
2 min....lol

Now time to seal it up with some
wood glue and screws.....

You see the holes i drilled
outside the platen's working dimensions
they are pre-drilled through the MDF and
into the platen supports underneath. I probably
could get one more row of holes in there.

Ok here is the bottom of the former....as
you can see I will be using the same platen
support for the bottom, and another piece
of MDF. You can see from the pics how
shallow the middle of the former is, this
is what I wanted. I will port it out through
the bottom with a whole saw before I attach
the bottom.

Next the frame work to hold the plastic....
If you were wondering I have....
37 Inches usable platen Left TO Right
22 Inches usable platen Top TO Bottom
42 Inches usable platen on the diagonal

Re: Slave-1

Thanks guys!!!:thumbsup

On to the frame work that will hold
the plastic.

I gaped out the frame away from the platen,
if you don't it will be impossible to set it down
clean. You need some space to be able to seat
the frame in order for the plastic to set
down.

I used some heavy duty staples on the top and bottom
and along the sides it came out rock solid....which was
good i didn't have to do any drilling.

Interesting note....The bottom of the frame work
can't be greater in thickness than the palten, they
have to be the same or you won't create vacuum.
My platen was made out of 3/4 MDF and the frame
is 3/4 inch.

Here are both pieces of the frame I counter sunk the holes on
the bottom so they would not raise the frame and plastic off
the platen, added the handles and wing nuts.....finished!

Re: Slave-1

Looking good, i get the second set of pulls. Called it first.

LOL...No problem if it all works.

Here is a few pics I forgot just sealing up
the air chamber with some silicone, before
screwing it down to the bottom of the platen
support.

Done with vacuum port on bottom.....this thing is heavy 48 lbs minus frame ....LOL

Re: Slave-1

If the weather is like it is here, just a quick pop out the door into the yard, and he'll be good to go!
