Fire Spray 31 patrol and attack craft from Oovo IV prison

Re: Slave-1

Looking great Mike. Love your new former, too. Very curious to see how you're going to pull the canopy...

Re: Slave-1

I'm guessing you'd have to make a second hull and fill the cockpit area to form a new buck then remove the styrene and vac over that?

Re: Slave-1

Possibly. I just wanted to plant the seed, make sure Mike was thinking about it. The hull and canopy work best if they can be pulled as "nested" parts. What I see is a strong, thicker understructure (first pull), the clear canopy pull (second, which fits over the understructure), then a relatively thin, finish pull (third, which fits over the canopy). These all have to be pulled in succession, to fit well together. I'm not sure how all of this will work if pulled in halves. And, of course, there are some tricks to pulling absolutely clear canopies (which Mike knows).

Re: Slave-1

Thanks for the ideas guys....I am not thinking that far
ahead at the moment. Not sure how I am going to
do that? LOL

Some work on the fender...... and forming it
in 3mm. I didn't like it in 2mm once the opening
was cut out it was kind of flimsy to me.

Thats' how you want to see the riser then you know your
part is formed tight above it.

This showed up today they were supposed to be here
on Thursday....of course I don't have the plastic yet. I
went to light it and the propane bottle from the grill
was empty! LOL I have to also pick up another bottle
for the other burner. The frame fits well inside the I
think it's going to heat fine, not sure if I am going to
make a box or not for it .....will see.

Re: Slave-1

Thanks guys......

I built the box and lined it with aluminum flashing.....
just some pics of the set up.

It only took about 8min for this 4.5mm HIPS
to heat up each one of those burners are
35,000 BTU's on high and there are 6 of
them so around 210,000 BTU's LOL

I probably heated it a little to much it
didn't burn but I got some webbing,
it was away from the part and down on]the riser
so no problem. Not bad it's the 1st time I ever
formed outside .....and 1st time using HIPS over
3mm.

The flash to be cut out is tight and easy to see....

This HIPS may have been around 4.7, as you can see I trimmed
the flash this picture this is at the bottom and I still finished with
4mm!! There is no flex in these things if you hold it by the tail and
shake it it's like a club....LOL Now to do all the trimming measuring
and flat sanding to get the two together clean.

Like i said a lot of work to do.....I might cut the rough
stuff on the bandsaw I think this will wear out my dremel
tool! LOL

Re: Slave-1

That's amazing Michael!. Mighty impressive to get 4mm thickness from as you say 4.7mm, some serious heat & suction you got going on there mate!.
Your guide trim lines look straight & true, should go together sweet!.
You must be very proud mate, I would be, to get terrific pulls like that first time from a scary sheet thickness to an untested table, wicked stuff!.

Re: Slave-1

Worked like a charm Michael, but knew it would, you have a flair for doing this stuff, looks awesome buddy!

Re: Slave-1

And why would we expect anything less mate? looking like you will have a seriously strong Slave bud, can't wait for more

Re: Slave-1

Thanks guys small set back......

I needed 74mm here and i only had around 61mm or 62mm
I had checked this a few times......measuring from the wrong
point every time most likely!:facepalm

I just formed up what i needed and added some clay...

Using some wet sewing thread to cut the plastic form
away before it set up.

Adding a bit more clay to be able to blend it
in. I also had to add to the end of the tail, as
this was effected also.

I will have to reform them now and i will use some thing
thinner probably 3mm.

Re: Slave-1

2 hrs of quality catch up, your a gent mike and a genius

Was good speaking with you Guy as always ......should get to form this tomorrow!!:D
This is 4x8 sheet of 3mm it will do both fuselage halves front and rear skirt and
both fenders. The plastic in the front is what's left.

The two arrows show the areas I added the clay
to they have been sanded out. I found a low spot
tonight so I marked it out.

Good....

Bad....

little worse...

Date with palm sander in the morning.....
