I laser cut some emblems for my model stands from 3mm acrylic. Cheesy, but very quick and easy. It won't work for all the models, but is fine for the models that are are lamp stands.
Dann, I could probably churn out a few resin emblems, even with an aluminium filler if you wanted to polish it rather than paint, but with over 400 model design and applied arts students, all with access to the laser cutter, the technicians would limit any extra-curricula use. Our laser cutter isn't very high powered, and is quite slow with 5mm acrylic. A new project has just started and the architectural model makers are gonna be caning the thing.

I took an old project into uni today. Hopefully I'll make some spare time, as I work on my final project, to refit/refurb my Star Destroyer. There are lots of bits that I'm not happy with, so I am going to rebuild them. I've started by stripping the upper outer edges.
