*finished* another Captain America USO cadet =)

Since shelving my last project after colouring my hair (I have no drive to work on Giselle now that I'm a brunette again!,) I needed a new project.

I've always wanted a USO dancer dress. The hype of the first film is well over, but I decided to go ahead with it anyway. I'll be using a combination of Simplicity 3784 and the input/patterns of the USO replica group on Facebook, so I'll only be showing my personal work here. I'll be making the Marvel Promo version instead of the screen-accurate, shown here: Images From Cap's USO Girls Salute the USS Intrepid | Marvel.com

So far, I've made a materials roundup, ordering heavyweight buckram and more millinery wire (it's been awhile!), and tonight I'll go fetch a bunch of stuff from JoAnn's. Pictures to come after I finish my first changes to the Simplicity pattern, which I'm using for its bodice.

Okay! Had a slight hiccup -- JoAnn was out of the white satin, blah. So I picked up what I could, headed back this weekend to see if they've restocked.

Meanwhile, I frankensteined Simplicity 3784. Actually, I didn't do much besides a little tailoring, lowering the waistline because I have a weird shape, and lowering the neckline because yay cleavage. I got the toile and the final cut, tomorrow is lining. (I really hate working with lining, it's so slippery and gross. I'm really considering self-lining.) I also got half of the skirt gores done, which are from a group pattern (see first post.)

On to the pictures:

Okay, an update mostly in pictures.

First the hat. Buckrammed, wired, felted, then sequined:

Also flatlined the lapels while I had sequins everywhere.

All that's left is fasteners and the hem. I also made the petticoat, which I don't have pictures of because who cares about ruffles? But it needs bias trim around the edges. So as soon as I get the last touches in, I'll put up final photos -- still waiting on my shoes though, so it could be a week or so.

Annnnnd finished! Thanks so much to Kathy & the Facebook group for the help on this!

Now I think I've chosen Mary Poppins for my next project... but that's another thread. xxxx

This is a bit odd for my first post here, but this is awesome! I myself am working on a 40s Cap, so color me impressed.
