Salt Flat Racers - a set on Flickr

Japanese dudes at Wonderfestival in Tokyo sell these "not Machinen Krieger but kinda similar in vibe" 1/35th mech and vehicle kits. One of them is this:
ƒoƒCƒp[‹@‘̉ðà I always liked the idea...

So I finally got off my duff and started making one in 1/20th scale:

An ME-109?

...or is it a BF? I can't keep them straight.

Don't forget the machine guns! (for eliminating the competition...)

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

Neither, it's a Bf. Uppercase B, lowercase f. :)

Nice work, Jason. I know the stuff you mean, it's not bad. Similar-but-not-the-same vibe, is how I'd describe it. Love the monobike, fr'instance.

Good question - will check when I get home!

Yeah, I want a Lewis Gun-like machine gun mounted to the thing :)

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

I know this would be difficult, but for the rear wheel....I would love to see...wire spokes! :)

I'm looking forward to this build - looks like a lot of fun. Where are those figs from? I like the two figs with their hands in their pockets - great pose.

Wow. Just when I stop thinking "I have NO talent"...

Seriously- Awesome build! Can't wait to see more!

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

Your imagination is profound! My only advice (no Lewis) keep her a tru-Racer!

Unless shooting is part of the course. (like winter CrossCountry Skiing in the Olympics) Great work, Jason!

I think what James may have menat to actually ask is if it's based on a 109 or a 190. Though the 109 is an Me or Bf, depending on it's production date (all a matter of when Messerschmitt joined Bayersreich) and the 190 is a Focke Wolfe, both bodies are very similar.

The biggest, distinguishing characteristic, is not on this build. And that would be the canopy. The 109 has a boxy, side opening canopy. The 190 has a more streamlined, sliding canopy (think of a P-51D or a P-47D bubbletop).

Well, having fun with a mini Kow Yokoyama at the wheel:

The inner cab is coming together as well - constructing it so I can finish it and insert completed from below:

Looking really good! I'm following this really close- I decided to try and do one of these myself (and I think I'll need all the help and luck I can get!)

Thanks!

Getting close to paint! Just cleaning up some lines, etc...

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

Gary's response answers the question I had about that detail behind the seat. ;)

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

Heh, the BTTF III car - Aoshima kit, 1:24 I think?

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

WHY does this make me think of that video for A-Ha's song "Take on Me". The guy with the wrench, in particular.
