Finished! 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

I'll beeeeee gooooooone... adding colors now (will redo silver as a lot sluffed off, lol). A lot is still unglued - so if it looks crooked, it is!
Will be adding a yellow pinstripe along the red/silver transition, I think.

I thought of the same A-Ha video when I saw this! Looking great, I love off the wall subjects like this. I also like how you have the figures posed around it, that's really cool.

The silliest thing to comment on, but i love the bug eye headlamps, adds a lot of character to the nose J......wasnt too taken when you started, but i have to concede, thats bloomin marvelous...a real good sense of vision, and implemented in styrene perfectly......really makes me wanna go break out an ME109 too i have to add LOL.

A WONDERFUL and imaginative piece in the works! I'm glad you went with "silver" since it harkens back to the German "Auto Union" racers of the thirties which were far ahead of their time and terrors on the track!

You've introduced me to a whole new genre and one which I am eager to explore!

KUDOS!:thumbsup

Wow, love the style !!!

Reminds me a bit of the "Last Exile" airships :

The designs are essentially the same, taking a bit from old time racing cars and airplanes, mixing in some steampunk-technology to make them actually fly ... :lol

I love those designs ...

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

Absolutely beautiful job :thumbsup.

You know what would be really cool to see? A series of similar racers built on warbird bodies. P-51's, F4U's, Jugs, etc. - now that would be a collection. You could make it like an internation race series; countries show up with their own versions. Japan could have a racer built on a Zero, Russia could bring the Yaks and England, the SuperMarine.

Just some thinkin' out loud ;) :love.

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

I have plans for more, of course ;)

But after Wonderfest!

So some people have been asking about the propulsion, and it's sticking in their craw that there's no drive train anywhere. Setting aside that I don't give a crap really, I came up with a solution. The combustion engine powers some magnetos or motors or whatever in the front wheel rims - so the propulsion power is IN the front wheels, and there will be cabling that provides the magic power to them. Maybe the back wheel too. Who knows. Wheee!

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

All that's left is chipping/streaking on the car, salt on the tires (which will happen when I make the base), glossy highlights in the goggles/eyes, and a few more high and lowlights in the figure!

Hey,that looks Great.A little old school up front & more modern looking in the rear. The front opening would look killer with a grill.

Really nice paint, Jason. Like Lee I was a bit sceptical to begin with but wow, have you brought this together. Love Mini-Kow, love the pressed front wheels too, very '50s special.

Derailing a bit:

I think what James may have menat to actually ask is if it's based on a 109 or a 190.

I thought he was making a joke about keeping his Me's and Bf's straight.

Though the 109 is an Me or Bf, depending on it's production date (all a matter of when Messerschmitt joined Bayersreich)

The 109 was Bf from first to last IIRC, like the 110. The company was called Bayerische Flugzeugwerke at the time the 109 was designed and only started using Me. for new designs begun after changing their name.

</nitpick> :)

Re: 1/20 "antique" Salt Flats racer/MaK-ish

That turned out pretty damn sweet, Jason :thumbsup

Beautiful work, Jason. I just hope he doesn't try to do 90. Looking forward to your future salt flat racers.
