Final Fantasy Spirits Within watch.

I was wondering if anyone had seen these around or even non working versions.

I'm most interested in the one on the right as it is nearly movie accurate to the one Aki wore. I havent' been able to find any more in move pics to even plan on making one and i wouldn't know where to start.

Hmm looks interesting. No idea where to look either. But i'd be hella interested, loved that movie when it came out.

I think only the one on the left was released and its going for about 1000.00 as they made 2000 of them only.

I wanted the original watch that Aki wore (the one on the right) but unfortunately it was only real in the movie. At least, that's what I understand from everything I've read about the movie from the book and an email from either a Seiko or Square representative (I can't remember which but I think I saved the email). The one on the left was pretty easy to find around the time of the movie. One's up on eBay now for ~ $300 with a lot of time to go. I couldn't bring myself to get one then because I just didn't like the actual design compared to the CG one in the movie which looks like a high end watch. I wish Seiko would revisit the design now but since Spirits Within didn't do as well as expected I doubt it. I think I'm one of the few people that enjoyed the movie. It still looks amazing to this day.

Please note that this watch was based on the time keeping instrument worn by the "Deep Eyes" Team and not the more Elaborate Holo watch work by Aki, That version was not released because of the excessive cost to manufacture it

That makes me sad. :thumbsdown

I didn't notice the Deep Eyes team watch. I'll check it out. My understanding was that the version that Seiko made for sale was a cheaper/made for fans (tie-in) version of what Aki wore. Not just that it would be too expensive. I'm pretty sure if Seiko made a limited version of Aki's watch and it was in the $1000-$1500 range it still would have sold out.

It probably would have, but I don't think they could've justified that or even thought that at the time.

I was interested myself in this timepiece, combed all the net and found some pics, but mostly as some posted here, the movie bombed and the watch wasn't that easy to make.

So I think, the only way to get this watch is to make a RPF project of it. One who's good at CAD, someone who can provide as many pics of the watch as possible, one who has the equipment to finish this in metal like russrep, one who can replicate the GFX or electronic internals with AMOLED and guys like us who are interested in this piece.

Definately agreed, although I have none bar the interest. :lol

I hate to see the cost of the project lol. I already have russrep looking into a project for me so this one may have to wait. Heck even if it didn't work as a real watch it would just look cool to have.

I have seen a few pop up on ebay, but they have always been a bit much for me for this type of watch.

Love the look of it.

Finding the high res pics would probably be a pain as everywhere i look the pics are all the same. I think they'd have been more popular if they'd made Aki's and not the other one. The produced one looks like any other trendy watch out there to be honest. I have a feeling this would be a prohibitively expensive project to take on as you'd have to use aluminum or it would weigh a ton plus all the work to do it. You're probably looking at $500 at least and its not exactly popular enough to warrant a large run to make costs go down.

what's even sadder is that that 3D file is just sitting in a hard drive in some folder that's never opened anymore, just waiting to be printed.

That's what we'd need. I wish i had the art book still, it had sketches of the watch and its other prototypes as seen in the movie.

The art and making of book are the same correct? I have the making of book packed away. I don't remember other prototypes of the watch in the book. But it's been a while. I do remember now that I contacted Seiko about the watch. They emailed a picture to confirm what I was looking for. But the image was on a drive that crashed. I've been holding off on fixing it. I probably should get to it. But I doubt that Seiko sent me a high resolution image.

Hell regardless of that price I'd still want one.

lol. I actually had all but 1 of the toys. The smaller figures were okay but the 12" figures with real cloth clothing were amazingly detailed. I thought he Making of book had sketches of her watch in it though. my buddy has my copy so i can't check.

I'll check my box logs. Maybe the book isn't packed away too deep and I'll take a look for those watch sketches.

I was searching for the watch and a board post mentions that Seiko made one prototype of Aki's watch. So, maybe the book will have firm details. Or I kept that contact email in the book. I really liked the movie. I have the press kit too. Hopefully, I packed all the stuff together.
