Done / Completed Fifth Element Mangalore "Kounan" character bust small run

All difficulties are solved.
I also casted the teeth in 2 colors what makes them much more realistic than painted jaws.

your work is amazing. It's extremely hard for me to resist to sign up since you started.
Can I ask where are you located? inside or outside Europe?
good luck with the rest of the work (y)

.
Several silicon layers later.

Next step is to make a hard shell and then i can start the casting of the heads...... :D

Very unusual are full sculpted inside lips and mounting platforms in the mouth for the teeth which will be also casted
together with the head in one step ..... ;)

OK, next lesson learned!

Never use too much fibreglass shreds in epoxy resin and use a fast curing one!!!

It took over a week for all parts of the shell and i should rename me here at RPF in "Bloody Pin Hands" ..... fibre glass with epoxy can be very sharp....Ouch !!!

.
First casted head ...
nearly no seamline visible, this will save time ..... :)

Every casting will take some days because i have to make several layers inside including one layer with fibreglass

Soon i can offer the first finished head :D

These are turning out awesome. Forgive my ignorance, but how easy would it be to make a urethane version with the same mold? I'd love to have a wearable version.

No, it would not be easy because you also need an inner structure to keep the shape of the "skin".

For the movie the creature department made all Mangalore heads with an inner and a outer head.
The inner head provides the general shape and the outer head has all the details.
For the background masks the creature department used foam latex for both the inner and outer part.
For the hero masks the inner part was made of epoxy resin and the outer part was made of silicon gel.

In this thread you can see how some of the masks were made.

Last chance to order .....

As i am going to come to an end here i would like to
mention it here once again that this is a limited offer
and after i have sent out the last bust i close the run.
This will be at the end of October.
I will not keep the mould and if its gone i will not make another one.
So if you are interested take your chance .... ;)

Are you selling the mold?

One fun fact is that the Mangalore camouflage really works.
Depending on the amount of light and the angle the head is from dark brown with dark freckles to mid brown an only sligthly visible spots.
The overall color varies from red/brown to grey/yellow/brown ......o_O
