Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Sadly I can't afford to be flying from Australia to the USofA for that sort of thing and travelling is difficult for me anyway but it would be fun.

Yes "Elvira" looks great for her age.

Well we (the U.S. that is) have been filming a lot of our movies, and TV, over there for the last few decades. (The Matrix, Star Wars prequils, Farscape. etc. etc. etc.) So you would think they would have more cons over there, since the actors are already there.

I live in Columbus Ohio, and they were filming the new "Avengers" movie up in Cleveland, over the last couple of months. (About 2 hour drive from me, give or take) But I didn't get up there once. It was in the news a lot. They had the stars of the movie all over there place, and since they were staying there wall the filmed it the stars were in the stores and restaurants a lot.

It would have been nice to bump into Sam Jackson, or Robert Downey in a Walmart. :lol (not that I know for a fact that that's a store they were in)

The cons here in Columbus SUCK. I'm too pore to fly anywere else, and too blind to drive, so I might as well live in Australia. Besides the weather is a lot better there, then it is where I live.

Oh, and I was also really kind of shocked how well Elvira has held up. I used to watch here as a really little kid, and then when she started doing new episodes last years, I though "how old it she now". It turns out she's in mid, ot late 60's. I would have never guessed that she is old enough to be someones grandma.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

This thread is incredible. You guys do great research and the end product is phenomenal. I wish I had an nth of creativity as you guys.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Eddie seemed pretty impressed with our Farnsworths, even though they were not quite finished and was nice enough to sign them both. Great guy!

That's awesome! I'm currently jealous! I want to get him and Saul to sign mine at Megacon.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

It seems that with the huge 40 second advanced warning that registered QMx users got about the sale of the Farnsworth it really didn't help. I ordered it and paid for it within 2 minutes of getting the email on July 29th (our time) and I got an email today (September 9th) saying it had just been posted. Not really good enough. It better be worth the hassle.

Re: LOST Dharma The Swan Wall Plaques

PLEASE KEEP THIS THREAD TO RESEARCH AND DISCUSSION ONLY!!! THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR THE SALE OF REPLICAS AND PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO BUY A FARNSWORTH IN THIS THREAD!!

Post #1 of this thread fellas! Just a friendly reminder.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Hmmm I didn't try to sell one nor did I ask to buy one. I have bought one and again not in here.

I'm interested in how it looks close up and compares with the efforts being made here and my own build if I ever get out of the hospital and get to finish it. Mentions of the QMx one are research to a degree I think. I believe the research and contributions I've made in here have been quite valid.

My comment was not directed at you, or discussing the QMX for comparrison. It was directed at people discussing cost and possible production of faceplates. At the very least those discussions should take place in the JY.

And again, I said it's a friendly reminder.

If it was directed at me, I have no intention at all of doing a faceplate run, but if someone needs help getting one, I will help them.

My eps file I came up with still needs some changes to be closer I think though. I did notice in the latest episode though, that the engraving looks MUCH darker than the original prop pictures showed, and darker than the QMX on display at dragoncon.

I'm wondering if the show props are now using plastic engraved plates, since the cutouts can be done for them, saving on time. The engraving in the last episode's props actually looks black in some scenes, identical to the look of the brass coated plastic engraving.

I got my electronics put in this weekend and i must say it's awesome to have a Farnsworth that actually does something. Next i need to tackle the dreaded faceplate so i can get rid of the cheap wooden one. Ugh...

How my Farnsworth Works:

Main Button
Normal Press: Farnsworth Activate Sound & Play Sound Clip
Normal Press During Sound Clip: Stop Sound Clip & Play Farnsworth Deactivate Sound
Hold For 5 sec.: Timed Ring Setup Mode. Indicator Light Pulses Once. Use encoder (Middle Knob) to set time delay as indicated by flashing indicator light (one flash = 5 sec. | two flashes = 10 sec. etc.). Press Main Button when ready to set. Indicator light will then flash and vibration motor pulses once.
Hold For 10 sec.: Auto 15 sec. Ring Mode. Vibration Motor Pulses Once.

Encoder (Middle Knob)
Turn Clockwise: Farnsworth Tuning Up Sound & Change to Next Sound Clip for Next Button Press or If Already Playing Automatically Switch to Next Sound Clip.
Turn Counterclockwise: Farnsworth Tuning Down Sound & Change to Previous Sound Clip for Next Button Press or If Already Playing Automatically Switch to Previous Sound Clip.

Ring
Play Farnsworth Ring Sound Clip with Pulse Matched Vibration Motor & Flashing Indicator Light. When Answered Play Sound Clip.

That looks good Xionic, where did you get the boards? That is what is holding me up finishing mine. I need a smaller sound board though. I don't have that much room left.

Wow, where did you pick up all the electronic parts? I picked up the voice clip piece mentioned earlier in this thread. That alone is cool, but yours is amazing! --Rande

Is there any chance you'll do a tutorial on how to put these together for a working prop like yours? I'd love to have light and sound effects on ours!

When i have some extra time i will make a soldering diagram, assemble a full list of the parts i used and give you guys my Arduino sketch file.

That would be awesome! I have modeate soldering skills, so I might actually be able to cobble this up together!
