Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

What is the font used on the faceplate?

I think someone way back said the only font that was close was called "Licious". The one used by many of us was a custom tracing that was added to the template that I think Kylash did. This was used to have some faceplates made. So it was supplied all done that way to those of us who got those faceplates.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

It was also said that Moonshine Script was a font. I got it and it looks perfect. It just needs to be engraved as an outline, not a solid font.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I have also found that my brass face plate is aging and tarnishing quite nicely with just normal play. :love

Yea I noticed that to, which is good since I dread when it comes time to do it when I gather everything and screwing up :confused

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Yea, I was really dreading it. I was afraid of making it look "dirty" and not "aged". But since it is tarnishing up naturally anyway, I'm just going to let it do it's thing! And as always with any newly acquired prop, it will get a LOT of 'play' for the first month or so anyway...

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Just a tip for you guys looking for a weathering method, theres some stuff called Aluminum Black for guns (works on brass as well). Just dab a little on a paper towel and lightly wipe it on the brass and it should give you a nice weathering. Probably best to test it on some scrap brass.
If you end up weathering it too much, just use a fine grain steal wool and rub it off and try again.
WARNING: use some kind of gloves and a breathing mask.

They usually sell the stuff at gun shops or in Walmart's sporting section where they sell rifle stuff.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

10 seconds isnt much, you can get 30-6t0 with the sound module in the first post.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

is there a module out there that is kinda a 2 stage one? meaning if I wanted to rig it up so when you press the button the ring plays and the red light flashes, press a second time red light stops and the activation sound plays.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I do have a question though, I got the faceplate from thad and the grill for the speaker part was engraved instead of cut out. If I wanted to get it cut out what is gonna be the best method to do so? Dremel with a specific bit, a certain place that does it, someone here could do it for me??? I think if I did it myself I'd only do the 4 bigger parts in the middle and leave the 2 small parts on either end. My biggest fear is of course I have no idea what I'm doing and I don't wanna ruin it since the faceplate is the hardest part to get a hold of and the most expensive part I've collected so far (The plate is made of brass). I just wanted to see if there was any options to do it, if not then I'll paint those areas black and put the speaker under the part above the crystal.

That is a bit of a bugger. At least if it had been a round hole or the rectangular one they are easier to do.

You could drill several holes close together using a 1mm or 2mm drill bit, however wide the slots are, or a bit smaller preferably. Then use fine jewelers files to make the slots right and neat. There are files that will get into those little "corners".Those files do a pretty neat job but it takes a while. I'd forgotten just how hard brass can be when I was making a faceplate for a cigarette case "Farnsworth" which I might call a "Philo" instead.

I just wanted to see if there was any options to do it, if not then I'll paint those areas black and put the speaker under the part above the crystal.

Obviously this is the easiest choice and won't chance damaging the plate.

I'm really glad I didn't have to do any of that.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I just came back from an outting looking at every kind of push light, flash light, anything with a dome that I could find in my area and couldn't find a single thing to fit for the video lens. Whats everybody finding to use since I can't find a single thing around here?

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

:confusedHi Guys,

I've just joined the forum and have found the list of componets for the original farnsworth but has one been put up for all the components of Cludia's farnsworth.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Mark

I'm planning on going to one of those jewelry engravers in the mall and seeing what they can do for me.

I'm also looking for a better view screen, as the push light sits too high.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I had that same idea but wasn't sure on it, Let me know how that pans out. I was gonna ask my uncle about it, since he's knows alot about this kind of stuff.

Like I said I went out on a hard target search for the video dome today: walmart, lowes, radioshack, toys r us, micheals, five below, and target. searched while I was at work (home depot) and found something what would be the perfect dome if it was just alot smaller. Only thing I got while I was out was a small push light but the dome piece wouldn't even fit the area, so I'm getting to be at a loss here but not giving up.

almost bought the DC jacks for the side of the case but the shipping stopped me on them. I found these on radioshacks website and almost got them today but there a bit bigger I believe so I held off for now. Thoughts on them? Size N Panel-Mount Coaxial DC Power Jack - RadioShack.com

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Those are too big. They are like twice the size. The dome is killing me too. I got a push light, it fits, but sits too high and the box doesn't close all the way. Who was vac forming them on the original run?
