Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Here's the link to the excess red lights I'm selling in the JY. Please read the post before PM'ing me. ;)

BTW, just a little trivia for you star trek freaks out there - The red indicator domes make a perfect substitute for nacelle domes on the TOS Enterprise 1:1000 model from Polar lights.

That is all :p

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

After all this time of reading this thread, I'm finally going to tackle making a Farnsworth. I've just ordered my Wheatley box and so now looking into all the switches etc....I hope it's possible to get those shipped to the UK. I've checked with electrical sources here in the uk and not the right ones yet, but early days I guess. Also, have been looking into how to tackle the faceplate...

I love this thread!!

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

CJ, I can ship the lens to you in the UK. But that's the only part I have left.

I put an interest thread up for the push button in the junkyard. God, these parts are hard to find.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Alright, as I only have one of the great vac formed screens for my Farnsworth... I'm torn as the best color to make the screen. I would love to be able to have a small LCD with some caps or animated clips but it just doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'll likely stick with the audio clip and maybe a LED to illuminate the red light.

So, what's the general consensus on the color of the screen? I've seen more with the light grey or blue-grey color but it seems that most caps of the Farnsworth when it's turned off show the screen pretty dark, almost black. I think I'm leaning that way...

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

yeh, it does seem to be pretty dark when turned off so guess that would be the way to go....I'd love an animation behind mine but no way I'm good enough at electronics for that, so will probably go for a printed screencap behind the lens.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

all pictures we have seen of the actual prop when not in a shot in the show, ,the screen is gray. theres a new set of cards out and the farnsworth one has a gray screen as well. There may be a black screen one, but we only have shots of it like that after an effect turns off, which is green-screened.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I'd love to get to work on mine, but the 2 cases I ordered from a seller on ebay still havn't arrived.... and I missed the 45-day resolution cutoff. Hopefully they're just held up by oversea shipping. :confused

I have a few caps showing a Farnsworth in the background on it's stand and the screen appears to be very dark. Being that it was really not in the shot and barely visible it seems odd that they would take the time to motion track it and change it from grey to black. I'll see if I can find a few caps.

Again, just spitballing here... :)

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

either way, i think it comes to preference.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Looking at all the images on the first page of this thread all but 2 shots show it grey and one of those shots of it black are from the station break segment.

The Wired Magazine images show it to be light grey all the others are a darker grey.
look at the pictures of when Arty first introduces them to the new toys (grey)

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I think the gray is more like what it would be if it were a real television tube, the majority look like this when off

A paper screen behind the lens, held with the brass nails and a bit of rubber band to keep it snug. Paint the paper any color you want, and you can add the electronics later!

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Madcap, did you order yours from the Chinese ebay seller that was linked in this thread? I did and mine took about two weeks but did get here. If it was someone else I can't help you, but if it was that company then it's probably just held up in customs.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I was thinking that they looked about right when I looked at them. I have one of the model kits here that I haven't fits but haven't actually tried them for fit. I don't have enough of the indicator lenses to put on the model if I build two Farnsworths (I have 3 lenses) and they are just too hard to come by here in OZ. It may not fit mine as it is the AMT/ERTL one.

I'm sure model kit quality sometimes goes downhill with time. I had an original AMT Enterprise kit that I got in the early 70's and it had clear red light up nacelle domes (reflector dish was the switch) but the more recent one I got had nothing but dull grey domes that had to be painted. Of course the other kit I have with optic fibre lighting has illuminated domes but it was somewhat more expensive.

Shipping from Wheatley in the UK really doesn't take long and you know you're getting the right box. They can also be ordered from them without any foam inserts at a slightly reduced price but you have to do a manual email order specifying this as it isn't an option in the online ordering system. They are really helpful.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

and I know you've been just sitting holding it and stroking it and thinking "nice shiny new box". It's always good when the main part of something turns up and you have to ponder what to do next.

Very excited......my Wheatley box just got delivered. :)
