Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I use a cut down 5/8 X 16 linoleum nail cut down (I had them on hand) they seem correct

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Unfortunately I missed last night's episode and will have to catch it on a replay next week. Any good shots of the Farnsworths? Anyone notice any of them having more than one set of the side jacks?

The SyFy web site decided not to air the newest episode on line until next week.:angry

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

yeah if you check it out ..it shows it one week after it premiers . I was watching last weeks last night

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Normally it shows the day after it airs on TV, this week they changed it.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Im going a bit crosseyed looking through the thread. Could some one point me to where we nailed down the spacing between jacks and their position. I could eyeball it, but would rather not

I don't believe that it was ever mentioned. You'll just have to make an educated guess.

Re: Warehouse 13 Farnsworth Research Thread

I bought this lot on Ebay, but I have to see if they're the right ones when I receive them:
16 pcs Mini Push Button SPST Momentary O/F Switch - eBay (item 220629608978 end time Jul-07-10 04:07:47 PDT)

If they're a match, I'll have extras to help others with their own projects.

Given that I have the Wheatley 9601GD box which we decided was the correct one I think that -

1. If the ebay switches are the ones I think they are they'll be too small but it's possible they are a larger version of the one I'm thinking of. If they are bigger then it might be an issue fitting them under the faceplate.

I'd like to see how they look in place though.

2. The Gardner-Bender ones seem too big including the diameter of the threaded part. I have a couple and even with the lugs folded flat or removed there is barely enough space to get the switch under the faceplate. They then sit a bit too proud.

3. The switches that look right seem to be the LITTEL ones. They have a concave button and are a good match size-wise though it is tight squeeze to fit them under the faceplate. I'm thinking I might have to grind mine down slightly.

Also as division6 mentioned, there seems to be another small metal rod (below your arrow) from the banana plug adapter going right through the side of the case. It can be seen in another screencap as well from the banana plug side. I'm thinking of just ending the small rod in a flat end that just sits against the side of the case so it will look the same but not penetrate the case.

It's here under the tails of the capacitor.

If you zoom into the second photo posted by division 6 you can see what appears to be some type of connection through the wall of the box. Maybe this one was modified specifically for this scene?

... I'd only been able to find 3.5" screens and finding one with a normal video 1vp-p level input has proven pretty tricky.

One compromise might be to use a slightly deeper fly box if getting everything in becomes a problem. Wheatley makes a few sizes of 6" fly boxes.

I'm lucky in that I work for a company that makes 4" diagonal screens for home control. After some work, I realized that the screen needs 12vdc, ground, and composite video (sd resolution). We also have small cameras, mics and speakers for doorstations. I rescued some parts from a dumpster so I just need batteries (thinking 4x3v lithium batteries, but I don't know what draw is yet, so it might be way too expensive to run on them) and the transmitter/receiver packs. Ring tone, lights, etc, are a low priority for me now.

I had a friend that made a toy walkie talkie set into a couple of working Star Trek communcators in the 1980's. They were a little bigger. That's my thought. In my mind a close to accurate Farnsworth that works might be cool.

Of course there is the issue of the metal box acting like a Faraday cage and attenuating the wireless signals. It would be a bugger if you needed to dangle a couple of antenna wires out. Might be OK as the boxes are aluminium but I guess to have functional units rather than completely screen accurate ones, you could use the ABS boxes used in the Farnsworth/Claudia version.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Would someone with the proper black push button, please measure the diameter of the button and post it?....Thanks

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Im surprised to hear their faceplate is from the original CAD drawing, their numbers look maybe 10-20% too big around the dial..

They -say- it's from the original CAD Drawing. I agree with Kylash in that it does not look perfect.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I just put in an order for the Cool Tools Patina Gel - Liver of Sulfur in Gel Form.
Watching the video on it looks like it should work, guess we'll find out in about a week of so.

Have some switches on order to.

Almost There.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Nice close up cap from last week's episode... nothing new, just a nice cap. ;)

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Looks like they added some orange around the top and green in the lower area, probably where that company (name here) got the idea from.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I'll be trying a sulfer water bath to age the faceplate, works great for silver.
I was just going to paint the outer case.
Suggestions??

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I'm curious if there's anyone else here from Australia working on this and the other WH13 props?
