Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

mine is a 400

Weird. How about the red switch? Is it flat too? Do the backs of the red and black swithces look like they are the same age? I wonder if the new ones are flat on top. From now on everyone will need to ask the sellers for close up pics of the switches.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Watched the last episode last night and towards the end i could swear i saw 2 of those eyelets above the little mic jacks on the side. It looks like they just added the 2 jacks to the original props for the dish thingamabob. Keep your eye out tonight.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I went bin digging today and found some black banana jacks. Also found some tuning coils. I'm pretty sure thats what is used on the dish. You can see the iron adjuster in the screencaps. These are not exact but i will rewrap the red one with some thin red copper. Pretty sure the T pin is correct also.

Take a look at the cap I posted here. I really don't think it's a pin.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

It looks to me like they've either added some eyelets further up like on the Caludia unit but it's hard to tell if they have left the original jacks there or built another unit with just the eyelets. In all of the scenes I have looked at there is always someone's fingers over where the original jacks would be.

It does appear that the jacks on Claudia's are slightly higher than the other Farnsworths. I might have a cap showing two close together to show the difference.

I also have a couple caps, although not clear that may or may not support the idea of one unit with two sets of jacks. Near the beginning of the episode when Arty is holding Claudia's and two other units you can see at least one is "stock".

Also, I have a closeup showing what appears to be a electrolytic capacitor in the bump portion of the banana jack.

I'll post them in a bit.

Here's the shot of the capacitor in the banana plug.

Arty holding three Farnsworths and what might or might not be a second set of jacks but the one on top of Claudia's is stock.

The Farnsworth on the left with the antenna still connected does appear to have the lower set of stock jacks.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Unfortunately I missed last night's episode and will have to catch it on a replay next week. Any good shots of the Farnsworths? Anyone notice any of them having more than one set of the side jacks?

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Hey, I've been reading this for a while and it got me thinking about the electronics. I work for a company that used to make 4" lcd's. I've found a couple along with a couple small cameras. I was thinking about stripping down a couple of the 2.4 ghz video transmitters and seeing if I can fit it all in the box for short-range "classified conversations" ;). My wife tweeted twice that I was a geek. I can do wired video between the two plugged in units today. Wireless and battery is yet to come.

What do you all think? Is video worth the potential loss of the ring and blinking light?

Welcome Paul! Yes, I would like to know more.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I did find a "Barbie" night light online and the whole unit is quoted as being 4" across so it looks like the dome would be about 3" and the Barbie image appears to be on a stencil behind the dome.

Well I ordered a couple of Winnie the Pooh night lights that looked about the right size. I won't know if the dome will be close enough to use, until they turn up.

With the wealth of tiny wireless cameras around these days fitting one in shouldn't be a big task though I've found them to be a bit unreliable with a 9V battery. The flashing light would need very little space and could be made to fit just under the red lens. Some sound recording/playback modules are quite flat and again would squeeze in almost anywhere.

I'd only been able to find 3.5" screens and finding one with a normal video 1vp-p level input has proven pretty tricky.

One compromise might be to use a slightly deeper fly box if getting everything in becomes a problem. Wheatley makes a few sizes of 6" fly boxes.

Re: Warehouse 13 Props Research Thread - Farnsworth

Micro Mark has an etching set on sale this week but it's only does 3"x3".
It could probably be adapted to do something larger.

That actually looks like a really good store for the hobbyist. I wish we had a few stores like that here.

That's what I'd reckoned they did. Simply added two of the "gold" eyelets like the ones on Claudia's Farnsworth. It might have been possible to use the original jacks by making the metal rods from the dish longer (or telescopic) but I suspect the spacing is wrong for the banana plug adapter.

It might be possible to disassemble it and grind the threaded part down a bit to make the profile lower. I don't know if it would expose some brass underneath. Maybe test on an unseen portion of the switch body. I was thinking I'd have to do tis to mine or use a deeper box.
