Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Farnsworth Research Thread

Historical:

anyone have any insight into how to make the gold one looked aged as it does on screen? In the show it almost looks black sometimes. The flyboxes are anodized aluminum i believe, so i dont think gun bluing will work..

At first I thought (From looking at one of the photos) that it might have been electroplated copper.
But after looking at some other photos, it looks like it might just be spray painted.

Notice that the hinge area is kind of worn and has the gold showing through (THis might be the copper paint coming off from constant opening and closing of the communicator.)
Also notice that the lip around the base is gold.

Im going to wait until I get the box and then decide what to do....Ill most likely just paint it copper/bronze and add some weathering.

thinking maybe a sponging to get that uneven look to it? Yeha i noticed the hinge looked worn differently. Im also hoping the logo that appears printed on the front of the boxes is easily removable.

Any pictures to confirm if there are small dot pinheads on each corner of the outside covers? Ive seen this done on the dvd cases but havent been able to tell if its on the real deal.

Im guessing the logo won't really matter if you you're going to paint over it.

Not sure which corner pinheads you're talking about.
Does the original prop have pinheads on the corners of the cover?

There's a chance that the original thread may be restored for archiving, so I'm going to hold off on adding any more historical for now.

Re: Warehouse 13 Farnsworth Research Thread

That would be good since there is about a years worth of research in there.

Re: Warehouse 13 Farnsworth Research Thread

So, according to the podcast for episode 201 says that each farnsworth prop cost them $4000.

Wouldn't you know, as soon as my daughter gets a few of the items to make one, and cosplay as Claudia...Claudia get a new and improved one!

I hope all you talented people get to work on that one soon, then, I can just keep the 'old school' one. I am, after all, a female 'Artie'! :p

I have to say, it is amazing to see the level of dedication and talent in terms of props that I've always tried to aspire to in my costumes. Just wanted to give a motherly 'pat on the back' to all you artists out there!

And, am I to understand that any barter/buy/sell/trade/commerce is to be done in the Junk Yard area/thread? I want to make sure I do things right, being the new "kid" in town. Thanks!

There is a separate research thread for Claudia's Farnsworth's Farnsworth.

Only in the JY, although you have to have at least 20 posts and been a member for 45 days to take part in there. Which leaves me no chance to do so until August comes around.

Being from Brazil and having my yearly visit to family/friends end at end of this month, I'm running against time to get all the pieces I can to make a Farnsworth of my own. I'm still waiting for most parts to arrive, but I'll be helping some RPFers that PMed me with the extra parts that I receive.

Re: Warehouse 13 Farnsworth Research Thread

Thanks, I updated the link in the first post as well.

I purchased my boxes from flyfishusa.com. Just checked and they still show them in stock. www.flyfishusa.com, search for 9601 and you'll find the colors, including the GD gold. It was $38.95 plus shipping. shipping in the US is a flat 4.95.

Unless they didn't have them in stock and hadn't updated the website... I purchased one from the Wheatley site for $34 shipped. (£15.31 + £7.50 International Shipping = £22.81)

I bought this lot on Ebay, but I have to see if they're the right ones when I receive them:
16 pcs Mini Push Button SPST Momentary O/F Switch - eBay (item 220629608978 end time Jul-07-10 04:07:47 PDT)

If they're a match, I'll have extras to help others with their own projects.

I also bought this one at Radio Shack, but I'll have to wait for my fly box to arrive and see if they're the right size:
Mini SPST 1.5-Amp Momentary Pushbutton Switch (2-Pack) - RadioShack.com

Re: Warehouse 13 Farnsworth Research Thread

I'm betting that the one from Ebay is a better match, since the button itself is a bit shorter in height.
