Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Just found this on the I Want One Of Those website.
wondered if they could be used.

You could certainly use one. Just remember that the Farnsworth screen is 3" in diameter and that screen on the fridge magnet is 1.5" square. You'd have to mask around it quite a bit or magnify the image. I'm thinking of putting a magnifying lens behind mine to distort the image like it is on screen.

Good luck with that. Given that parts had to be fabricated specially to make them.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

thanks pete, i didnt realy think it was very likely though genraly if im getting stuff fabricated i will get several done at a time to make it cheeper so i was hopeing maybe some one had some almost finnished ones on there work benches but as you say its very unlikely
also you dont know if you dont ask.

You never know. Some people were making two or three of them so maybe there'll be one for sale.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Here's mine. Sunlight wiped out the aging and made the brown look lighter and more red. I'll try to get a better pic. The parts are just set on there and I have not put the plate behind the rectangular cutout. But you get the idea

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Anyone working on electronics? My first one will be static but I'm planning to build a 2nd with sounds.

Anyone?

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I dont have the url with me, but i found a great small usb device with a light that will playback any sound files you put on it, planning on using that.

I also am getting a hankering to make Artie's little Farnsworth stand...

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

That would be cool.

I drilled the holes for the side jacks yesterday. Because of the small ridge in the bottom the drill walked on one of them so I now have one hole slightly higher than the other :confused I'll try to fix it but it won't be perfect.

These holes are tricky to drill due to the doubler riveted inside as well. Be careful!

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

its something like this, just plug it in, add the files you want, and playback with a pushbutton. Best part is it can be made to loop, so you can put a delay and then the ringing sound so you can push the button, close the box have it start ringing, then only stop once you push the button again.

Fortunately though with the boxes being aluminium, one can drill slowly with a very sharp bit, starting with a very small bit. I find the slow rotation speed tends to stop the drill bit wandering off-course.

I actually did it that way and took it up in small steps.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

id be interested to get a running tally of how many people are getting together or have finished a Farnsworth, there seem to be quite a few!

My parts are either here or in progress. Unfortunately something else has now gotten in the way of getting much work done on it. Hopefully I can get back to it soon.

Still chasing up suitable tubes for the Tesla too at the moment. I keep telling people that they don't have to be functional valves, just the right sizes, which they find odd for some reason. The usual response is "just give me the valve model numbers and I'll see what we have". Sadly Warehouse 13 prop makers weren't that specific. So I give them a picture and say "have you any in these sizes?".

Heres my weathered Szyntax plate, used the vinegar and salt trick and then some perma blue for the darker areas.

It all looks really good.

I noticed the milling marks in the recessed area are still a bit visible. I wonder if a light sand with fine wet and dry first will take them out.
