Family Futurama outing (Awesome-Con in DC)

One of my favorite things these days is to involve my family in my hobbies and luckily they are always willing to tolerate my madness and play along!
So with a nice Futurama contingent at Awesome-Con in DC (and a good buddy who lived in the neighborhood) I saw this as a great time for a family trip.

My wife was Leela, my buddy was Bender, I was Fry and my son picked URL! Go figure. He knew he wanted to be a robot and I was spittballing ideas at him like "Tinny Tim", but he wanted to be the "Stabbing robot" (Roberto) or the "Cop Robot". My wife decided Roberto was not appropriate! So URL it was!

So anyways, I slapped these together mostly in about 4 days (forgive the lack of 'fit and finish!')
I feel like all we did was take pictures, yet somehow I don't have many on MY camera! These are the few I had.

Best part of weekend was being called out by DiMaggio for "being late" to the Q&A panel. In actuality, it was full, and they wouldn't let us in. After hanging around and not going away, two people left so they let me and "Bender" in. DiMaggio called us out and led a round of applause! Later that day in the autograph line he realized my son was "URL" and said he had never seen an URL costume. Apparently he liked it because he actually came out to take a pic with my son on his camera for himself. So that was also awesome. Seems like a great guy and I am a bigger fan than ever.

Worst part was being cropped out of photos! :lolUsually it was subtle like moving in close enough to get me out of frame, but one older gentleman actually asked me to get out of the picture! Pretty brutal to break up a team and kick out the guy that actually built the costume...but hey lesson learned. Next time we are ALL robots dammit!!!
