Fallout New Vegas: NCR Veteran Ranger Finished! pg 8

Ya, I got some poster board and cut the chest armor out. If you follow the exact same shape it might not fit.

I was in the middle of the build and not at all happy with my body armor. Then i found this site and your thread. You helped me out so much and severly improved my build so far. Thank you.

the break light kit i got was about 5 - 10 bucks at an autozone, and there was enough in the pack for three lenses, as in three eyes, not three sets of eyes.
so i dont have any to spare, sorry.

the bandwidth is solved now, you guys manged to view these pics so much it went over my 10 gig bandwidth allowance.

as for the cape, i need to find my patterns, i just moved and got a lot of water damage on my boxes of books, so hopefully i haven't lost the pattern.
i would suggest use some large sheets of paper or some muslin/a sheet from a bed gotten from a thrift store for cheap, and experiment to find out what hangs best in terms of shape for your shoulders.
the shape of mine, from what i recall is not my fave part of the costume, for sure.
if i find the pattern i will try to show some shots of it.

Oh, really? I guess their website didn't really show what I was looking for though, if its 5-10$ I can manage that, thanks :) Not sure how to make it tinted though... I dont want to have to wear a mask over my face!

Thank you, but in the time I posted last I finished my jacket!! Im SO proud of how it came out. I researched the stitch you said to use, and it came out really nice. I didn't double layer it, and my rain cape came out OK (could have been better). The only real issue is that it puckers on the back around where it meets the color, but lays perfectly flat when its on a hanger, and it's not tight or anything when it's on so I dont know why it puckers. Oh well, not a big issue. When I have my whole costume done Ill share it with you :)

Yeah, when the pictures came back I went and saved them all to my computer (at least the ones I need for reference) so I wont be in a bind again XD

Now I have to work on the chest armor, the mask (painting it), the helmet (painting / someone attatching the camera box), the LEDs (one thing I figured out on my own, using a toggle switch, yay!), the belts and arm plates. SOoo much more to go XD

Do you have a link to the foam you used by any chance? I know you said it was Harbor Freight stuff but I'm totally new to costuming and I'm not sure exactly what I should be looking for.

Also, what kind of tool did you use to heat the foam and shape it? I've heard of people using stovetops and embossing guns and stuff but I'm not sure what would be the best course of action.

Finally, do you think sandpaper would work well to smooth out the edges? I don't have a belt sander unfortunately and I'm trying to spend as little as possible. It would be more work obviously, but would some really fine grit sandpaper achieve a similar effect do you think?

Regardless, great job on an awesome costume and I hope to hear your insights when you get the chance.

Umm, quick question. What were the values of the resistors you used? I could see in one picture (possibly?) Yellow Purple Brown, if you could please tell me what the values are i'd be very appreciative.

i don't recall the exacts, sorry- oh wait! i do have my notebook still,

I don't know what he used, but I used a scroll saw angled 45 degrees to cut the angle into the plates. Then just sanded it with 400 grit sandpaper.

Because I'm working on very little funding, and have no access to any kind of professional equipment, what would be the best for cutting the angle? I'm thinking I'll just freehand it, but I don't know...

Sorry, could you be more specific? angles of what part, in particular?

The angles of the armor where the plates meet. The abs and pecs to be specific. I was thinking of cutting it at roughly an 80 degree angle and curving it later. But I'm worried about pushing too hard and cutting right on through the foam.

oh right, i used powertools to work with the foam all the way.
i don't like using knives and scissors for it, otherwise it comes out very rough and uneven.
