Fallout: 3D Printed Power Armor Helmets UPDATED 12/2/2018

Re: Fallout 3: 3D Printed Power Armor Helmets

Alright guys, wrapping things up with my Ballistic Fist. Hoping to be back to sanding on the T-51b helmet early next week. I've slowly been casting small parts, and should be making a couple more molds for some other small parts soon, too. I'll have something a little more impressive than that to show soon, though. Stay tuned. :)

That said, Cassius just sent me over this beauty! I expect to start printing this one this Fall. I need to tweek a few things with my other Enclave helmet model, and will be pushing that one out the printer as well. Anyhow, enjoy!

Re: Fallout 3: 3D Printed Power Armor Helmets

Alright, well it's been a while since I updated here. Been rather busy trying to finish up Ballistic Fist (finally near the finish line.....WOO-HOOOO). With that project near finished, I'll be diving straight into these first two Army Power Armor helmets. I'm waaaaay behind on where I wanted to be with these lids by now, so I want to put full focus on them. I was a little scatterbrained there for a while, modeling prop after prop. I was, however, able to channel up my focus, and nail out the Ballistic Fist. That's the plan with the helmets (sadly my Tri Beam will have to wait).

Anyways, as promised, some pics of the casted parts I have so far, as well as current state of the lid itself. I have the actual bracket sitting in silicone, so I'll be casting those soon (need more resin). I should have complete optics assemblies casted in a couple weeks. I still need to further progress on the head lamp assembly, so I can get started casting those up as well. You can also see one of the ear discs was cold casted, with aluminum powder. I was very pleased with the way that came out, and do indeed plan on offering cold casted kits as well as ONYX kits. I myself am looking forward to a cold casted kit, I got very satisfying results cold casting my Ballistic Fist.

I've slowly been applying XTC resin to the T45 helmet. I like tinting the resin, so that you can see a lot better how your coverage is looking. I cannot wait until I can start going full steam on this one, but as I said, one at a time. T-51 comes first.

Anyhow, I'll be satisfying a couple orders for my Ballistic Fists, and working on finishing mine. After that, hopefully after this weekend, it's time to resume the T-51b build in it's full glory! The time is fast approaching, my friends. :)

OH MY!!! I thought the first Fallout 4 helmet I'd end up doing would be the new T-60 helmet. After I saw this pic, I knew that was not going to be the case. :love

Sweet lord I need to get these things going. It's going to be a very interesting year.

I saw it aswell, but one thing I noticed was there are grills either side of the lamp that are not the original T-51, so this must be a revision, possibly something like a T-51b.

Well, I wasn't aware of any specific difference between the F1 version and the F3 version (story wise), pretty sure they're both called T-51b. While it's possible that Fallout 4 specifies a difference between them, there was never any mention in previous games that the Fallout 3 version is different than the original. It's really a matter of developing graphics and artwork, and like you said, revising the armor for a newer, sharper game.

Now, physically speaking, yes it does indeed sport most of the look of the original. A lot. As in, they were specifically trying to make it look more like the original. The optics bracket is almost spot on.

In any event, this will be the first F4 helmet I will do. I'm going to stay the course with the ones I'm working on, for sure. But once we start doing F4 versions, this one will come first.

Re: Fallout 3: 3D Printed Power Armor Helmets

Yes same here, Im currently doing the T45b and T51 myself. Here where I am with both of em.

I think for the new T51 design, I'll complete it to the F3 design, save a copy, and then start applying the changes that can be seen in the F4 design.

You're models are looking dope, dude. :thumbsup Always love seeing your work.

Yeah, I was very tempted to start altering the current T51 helmet to the new specs. In the end though, me and Cassius both rather wait until we have the newer game models in hand, and then go from there. After all, I still have months and months (probably longer) before I complete the lids I've already printed. Not to mention the Enclave lid I'll start printing this weekend, and then the models Cassius is currently working on (all versions of the NCR Ranger/Riot helmets) now.

With so many helmets now, I'm both over the top happy.............and overwhelmed at the same time. Gonna die an old man making Power Armor helmets. Good way to die, though. :lol

Thanks. And that makes sense.

Alrighty ladies and gentlemen. Interest thread has been started in the Project Runs forum for T-51b helmets. With all my Ballistic Fist orders shipped, I'm ready to dive right back into this. :)

After doing more digging for pics, your right, I've only just noticed. I found that for F3 they also simplified the vents above the side pipes on the front but then have brung back the new look for F4

I think for my helmets Ill just do a F3 version and then do a modified version with the new super fine detail we've going to get from F4.

Any update pics on how the helmets are coming along?.

I will have an update for the T-51b lid this weekend. During the week, it's hard to find decent time to work on the main lid itself. It's easier for me to pick up one of the smaller pieces to work on during the work week (those smaller parts really add up). The weekend is when I'll be getting stuff done with the main bucket, as I can then commit hours and hours to it. I plan to spend most of this weekend working on it, I should have some pics to show progress on Sunday.

Re: Fallout 3: 3D Printed Power Armor Helmets

Looks awesome, will you have a working head torch?.

Thanks, yeah the idea is for a working head torch. I'll drill a hole in the parts after they are casted, as well as the hole in the main bucket where the parts fit over. The lens for the lamp is almost ready, I'll be casting it in clear tinted resin. Looking into what exact color I'll use, but I suspect it will be trail and error getting the color right. The lens won't be crystal clear like in the renders, the idea is to try for a more clouded look about them.

Soon enough I'm going to start looking into exactly what I'll be using for the light itself, and how it will be installed. I imagine it shouldn't be a world of difficulty, but at the moment do not have a solid idea as far as how I'm going to do it.

Re: Fallout 3: 3D Printed Power Armor Helmets

That is great looking. Such as smooth finish.

If the light is supposed to articulate, you could use a magnetic ball mount.
