FABRICATING a real IRONMAN suit out of STEEL.

Could I see photos of your foam Ironman suit?
Which Mark did you build?
Did you rig it up with lights & such?

i do not have a foam suit, im actually going to just build the suit out of steel right out of the gate. im building the mark vii, and will decide which electronics i will be using once the fab work is done

I really want to see pictures of the progress so far. I think a few have said it, but this thing is going to be heavy to actually try to wear. I've also worked with steel and I would suggest trying aluminum instead. Easier to work with and much lighter, not to mention cheaper! I would imagine this would be a display piece but can't wait to see some pics here.

im stilll waiting on the first run of parts to get done from my laser cutter. i do agree that it will have some weight to it but i have a few different ways of saving weight. there will be a few various parts of the suit that i will make from aluminum but do to my tig welder not being able to weld aluminum, im limited on which parts those will be. once i have some stuff up and going, i will post pictures of some progress.

So you lied?

um.. what? no i did not lie about anything. i never said that i had a foam suit.

i made a halloween costume that somewhat resembled an ironman suit but was not an accurate replica. not a pep suit.

I think what the people are asking for is pictures then of this suit so you have at least something to show for your quality of work to get excited about, that's all.

ok i understand what you mean, im trying to post a picture of my costume if i can get my computer to cooperate. it is by no means an accurate suit, i just made saomething that resembled the ironman suit and used a plastic helmet that i found at hot topic at the mall. i made it in 3 days and i did win a decent sized costume contest at a local bar that they have every year. i was just having fun with it at the time, but afte finding out about pepakura and this website, i decided to make the steel one for a fun winter project. give me a few mins, ill try to post a picture.

sorry, but you come here making big claims about how good you are at everything, and dont even show any of your work?

99.99% of all members who come here with big promises, no prior work pictures and that kind of attitude, never even make it to finish one piece.
while you might be able to do it, noone cares for big promises. as long as you dont have anything to show, this just looks like a "hey look at me im awesome and gonna make this thing like noone ever did" thread.

you dont want negative feedback, yet you give us no opportunity for positive one.
there might be some people, who are saying: hey thats cool
or similar, but thats about it

with the material alone, the suit will weigh at least 300 pounds, so you will be in pain just wearing it.
steel is not cheap, so you gotta look at a price tag with 5 zeros in the back at least.

also, the statement: i am not tony stark nor do i claim to be, BUT i just might be the closest thing to it is just weird, and totally looks like youre just looking for attention.
also, you lack basic writing skills, theres just huge wall of texts in your posts.

overall, its good that you have a dream, but dont do stuff like this, posting big promises without anything to show.
it just makes you sound like you want attention

and i mean all this in the best possible way.

you have to give it some time, what im doing doesnt happen over night. ill be the first to admit that im not the best with my writing skills, but from your detailed remark to my ideas and posts; you can understand what im saying just fine. yeah im trying to get the ball rolling but i do have to wait on other people at the moment. as far as the steel being expensive, i am fortunate enought to have axcess to all the materials that i will need to build this from a close friend of mine that owns a welding/fab shop that i worked for, for 5 years before i built my own welding/fab/machine shop. yes im sure i deserve some negative remarks from people for my claims of doing what i say i can do, but i do run my own business and im going as fast as i can on the progress of this in my free time in the evenings. so bare with me and give me some time to get stuff together to show everyone please. thank you.

Waiting for pictures..getting excited. This thing is going to weigh a ton tho, hope you have been doing your leg exercises

lol give me some time, im going as fast as i can. like i said in previous statements, it will be heavier than other suits but i have my ways of saving some weight. i think most people that have read my ideas think that im building some crude/poor immitation of an ironman suit out of rediculously heavy steel. the strength of the steel comes from the shape/design; not the thickness. SOME parts will be made with a thicker material, but the majority will be 18 gauge sheet metal which from my own personal experience of working with over time, is not as heavy as people may think. "sometimes you gotta run before you can walk"

update on the progress of my suit! this past weekend i decided to assemble a pepakura model of the MARK VII helmet for mock up purposes on my steel version (which was also a fun little side project) while i am playing the waiting game on my parts; which after doing so i have decided to modify my exsisting files for my laser cutter to make the helmet with less parts. this will make my assembly go faster and easier, especially with having a pep helmet to go off of as the parts will be assembled around my pep helmet to ensure the correct contours. with the modification of my files, it will eliminate a large amount of fold cuts that i will then use old fashioned blacksmithing method to stretch and shrink the steel in the various places needed to aquire the correct shape. all seems with be closed together and only fused with the tig welder until all pieces are shaped accordingly and assembled to form the complete helmet. by using this method of fabrication, it eliminates the possible/probable risk of the steel warping during the final welding process and will ensure that all dimensions will stay accurate. once this stage is complete, i will then cut the face loose from the helmet (which i will only have tacked into place for the assembly/welding) and put a finished edge on both the face piece and the helmet. i will post step by step pictures of these stages as they come together when i can finally begin building. this is beginning to become a very fun project for me and cant wait to have the helmet built and equipped with my own design of mechanisms and electronics to achieve that signature "clink" sound when the helmet closes. stay tuned for more updates, as i look forward to showing everyone my ideas coming to life!

Dude, do you realize that this thread has three pages now, and not one damn picture of anything. You're basically spamming your own thread, posting over and over again the same damn thing.

Stop bumping your thread. This is not cool. This is not funny. You clearly have ignored the other member's requests to stop posting about this until you have some pictures to show for it. You have been asked several times to USE THE ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD. But you keep posting these super long paragraphs that nobody can keep focused on.

I'm not sure why you seem to want attention so bad. I'm also not sure why you feel it's cool to continue to post basically nothing over and over again.

But enough is enough.

If you are making this, that's fine. Make it. Quit talking about it and just do it.

Then post about it.

But three pages of nothing is too much.

Hey man,

I understood this forum to be one of support, not a place for ridicule. Like yourself, I like to share my thoughts and ideas with people. Not for my own gratification, but because I get excited about new projects. Pictures or no, I believe it's important to have a place where we can be free to express ourselves. ESPECIALLY in a hobby like this, where you can't exactly go down the street to the "Replica Prop Store" and hang out and share ideas.

Sometimes I'll have what I think is an amazing idea, and someone will start throwing daggers and asking too many questions and it really makes me regret expressing myself. I'd hate for that to be the case with you or anyone else on this forum.

I will continue to follow this thread WITH SUPPORT and the hopes that it turns into something amazing. If not, oh well! You offered the idea of an amazing concept. I'm sure whoever reads this thread will consider what it would be like to actually own a full metal suit! That's good enough for me...

The RPF should SUPPORT creativity... Not find reasons to "bully".

My two cents...

Grammar police? I am not.

Whoa bud. Nobody is being a bully here. I sort of detest that statement.

And c'mon, three pages (and counting) of the same posts saying "well I'm working on it" is enough.

And so you know, he did not offer an amazing concept. This has been thought of, posted about, done before.

My two cents.........

With all due respect and in my own defense, ghost minion you literally have not said anything supportive about my project or ideas. In my opinion that IS bullying. Just because I haven't posted any pictures yet, does not mean I'm not making forward progress on my build. What are you building? Or what have you built that you can share with everyone? Or are you only on this site to tell people what YOUR opinion of a good or bad idea is? Yeah I may have 3 pages of "well I'm working on it", but that's because I'm not rushing it and I'm taking my time to do it RIGHT. Nobody is making you follow this thread so feel free to unsubscribe if my project bothers you so much. I've got plenty of support from other people that offer me positive feedback and ideas. On the other hand tho, I would prefer you do stay on here long enough for me to get some pics posted of what I can do/am doing; just to see you eat your own words. Now with that being said, I'll be waiting for you to send me the links to all these amazing concepts that have supposedly been done/thought of before; considering the fact that you think you know exactly what I'm doing with my build. Just be supportive or leave me alone Please.

........What are you building? Or what have you built that you can share with everyone?............

Right here. To name a few.

*slowclap* a long(er) time maker has more projects than a person that just started, *gasp*

GhostMinion, all you exude is hate and doubt. This is a person stepping outside of their normal field of expertise and asked for advice on how to attempt a project. He might be bringing skills and knowledge to the table that has not been used before on these type applications. As he has said he is not the best with computers, so maybe posting pictures is not super straight forward for him, no need to **** all over him.

He has been keeping some form of an update, if you want to say that it is for ego stroking, go look in a mirror. He is trying to keep us appraised of a personal project that, he did not even have to share with us, and I for one would like to see/hear about progress. He will have pics when he has pics. This is not a man on a schedule, this is a labor of love, and sometimes these things take years (I know I have some things on shelves needing to be finished).

mrjbarl1: glad to hear the pep will work on the cnc plotters, that is a huge bonus for rapid pattern creation. I hope the creation process goes well, ignore the hater.

Right here. To name a few.

very well. you are a talented man and i respect that. i dont know if you have ever worked with steel, but its a hell of alot more involved and time consuming than pepakura models. i just finished my first ever pep model over the weekend and although it was time consuming, it was fun and really cool that you can literally build the stuff u see in movies now. listen dude im not out to get anyone and im not talking down to you or anyone else. i can see in your pictures that youre good at what you do and thats awesome. as for me i cant print my steel parts off of my computer.

it takes time to do this stuff because i prefer to do it right the first time. no i dont have any pics up yet and i keep posting in this thread; but that is just to keep my other subscribers informed as to what particular step im at, or a rough idea of when to expect some pictures. im trying to keep people intrigued with the project so that when i do start to post picture, they make sense and know what it is that im doing in the pictures. on top of that, i am constantly trying to get as much feedback and ideas from other guys that may be helpful or cool for my suit.

i would much rather have the ideas now and make any changes before the pieces are welded together. which in my opinion makes perfect sense because say i forgot something or wanted to change something during the build; its a bitch to cut tig welds apart. especially without damaging other parts of it while trying to take a piece off.

so anyway can we just call a truce, start fresh and each of us just do what we do? im tellin you man, im not talking out of my ass with this project. its just at a slow spot right now because im waiting on other people at this point. as asson as i have my parts, sparks WILL start to fly.

And by the way, theres your DAMN SPACES!!!!!!!!!!!
