Update 3/21:
Oooooooooook....
I finally got the estimator on the phone for a chat. In order to help bring the cost down, we'll have to forgo the prototype. Reason being, the setup to do one of each piece is incredibly time consuming and labor intensive. And if you know anything about machine shops, time is most definitely money. Since we've created the 3D models we've made a few tweaks to get everything right, so doing a prototype would be redundant and unnecessary anyway. Once he's reviewed the 3D CAD models he's gonna get back to us on the pricing I've requested. So, I'm gonna give him till the end of the week before I bug him about it. It's hard to find a good quality shop. It's even harder to find a shop who will do such a low run of product for you. Most shops would just laugh at us, shake their head and say "good luck with that". Shops usually do parts in the 1000's not 10's. And this is a very complex piece with 15 parts and 11 fasteners. Doing 30-60 of these is nothing compared to their usual. So the fact their taking our job is rare. Getting them to the right price point just makes it even harder. I want to make sure people can afford these. So just a little longer my friends. We should have an answer soon and hopefully at the right price.
