Evolution of the Countdown

Forgot some pix so here they are

The whole kit in the gaunt (switches set in there because it has to come out for painting) plus accessories

IMG_0620.jpg

The detail of the lid- the hinge is leather....theres a cutout for the Run switch to fit ...plus a magnet; on the gaunt itself I steel-epoxied a piece of exacto knife...epoxy is black so I can cover the metal with it so blends in... Hmmm I think I have to disguise the On switch lever :) more little stuff to do

Closeup of the template; it helps locate switch holes lid magnet and switch recess plus metal piece

Thx you so much for you hard work on this one !

@ froggy

You are most welcome; its on its way

@ all

More info on the AVP ones; how it is installed using that leather piece and the posts: (warning- dialup killer; MANY PIX )

The gaunt needs to have had any inner bumps dremmelled out so the board either drops in or angles in.

Put the 4 small round holes in the template then put it in the gauntlet so the LED windows line up then mark the holes and "board" corners for reference:

IMG_0632-1.jpg

IMG_0633-1.jpg

Put velcro square on the gauntlet at the elbow end right under the curve for the arm; also put a strip at the wrist end flat part

IMG_0652-1.jpg

Put the board in the gaunt and line up the LEDs to the windows.

A small gap between the front to overlay at the elbow end is OK; if theres a larger one at the wrist end grind off some from the posts that go there

IMG_0637-1.jpg

Slide the sleeve to the board end of the wires to keep it out of the way of the tab on the leather

IMG_0643-1.jpg

Put the switches in and check the lid closes the on/off switch and the run switch is high enough; mark the levels. Don't glue them yet!

IMG_0642-1.jpg

With the board in the gaunt and LEDs aligned lay the leather so it lines up with the board edge and the tab hangs over the elbow end. Mark on the leather the locations of the two elbow end screw heads the one wrist end screw head the fuze and battery velcro

IMG_0658.jpg

Use a leather punch to punch the 3 holes and cut out the rectangles for the fuze and battery (maybe leave leather over the fuze; see how it fits)

IMG_0656.jpg

Now put the leather on the assembly using the screws and posts.

IMG_0660.jpg

IMG_0664-1.jpg

Maybe leave a thin strip along the elbow end to keep the tab from wiggling

IMG_0673-1.jpg

Put velcro square on the elbow end tab; it tucks in here

IMG_0663.jpg

Bend the leather at the wrist end and put velcro on it corresponding to the flat part of the gaunt

IMG_0667-1.jpg

IMG_0665-1.jpg

Trim the excess leather that sticks out

IMG_0666-1.jpg

IMG_0664-1.jpg

The back of the assembly with the leather on it:

IMG_0671-1.jpg

The front:

IMG_0672-1.jpg

When its all in the gauntlet the battery doesn't stick up too far even with the leather in there:

IMG_0668-1.jpg

Now the switches can be installed and glued.

Then align the LEDs in the windows and put the elbow end velcro tab down in the recess snugly. Do the same at the wrist end- bend the leather and secure it with the velcro. Now those posts don't need to be epoxied in; they just hold the board from moving up and down.

in this picture the switches aren't glued in... shows the alignment of the LEDs to the windows:

Punhulk,

thanks for the props :)

Small info/update,

Opening the lid applies power and its in 'standby' till the square button is pressed, then it lights up and counts down.

It will go thru the whole sequence and then go back into 'standby' till the button is pressed again.

That's a v cool link Glen but trust me when I say this Julies countdown knocks the socks off every1 elses. She revolutionised and simplified the countdown timer for us all. I have 1 and will be getting another very shortly, that's how damn great they are
