EVA foam pattern help needed

Hey all, I'm starting on a pet project that's been on my to-do list for the longest time and I need a little help from experienced foam smiths (esp. ones with experience in making their own patterns) in figuring out how to make a pattern for one piece. It's the shape I've outlined in red, I'm not sure how to make it aside from it likely needing to be at least 2 pieces. Anybody have any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Trace out flat piece to proper size.

Cover with tape then cut out.

Cut an overly large flat area that would collapse into rounded piece.

Tape it to flat piece.

Cut overlyy rounded piece at 0, 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees.

Overlap ends until desired form. Tape overlaped piece.

Viola!
