Hey all

OK while very very bored i shot two orange hues on to the buttplates of my CC kit (im not using the parts for the build so no worries there).
I wont say yet what the hues are yet, im trying to get a consensus of what others think too just by eye for now lol.
So anyways, left butt cheek....or right LOL, i look forward to any comments!

If these are strait form the bottle colors I say the left looks best. I would mix the two hues together and see what the result is as a third option, but the left looks better.

Thanks Flint, id do that, but there is a snag lol, cant mix them as one is an enamel model color, and the other an automotive application.
Im glad you said left though lol, searching for the right color for this has proved a pain as so much ref differs due to lighting, dust and wear and tear over many years.
SAG seems to hold the best beauty shot, to which the auto paint seems to match up to close.

I say left. On my monitor it looks dead on when compared to the pictures in Chronicles. When you're ready to divulge, I'd be interested in the mix for my own non SS Cloud Car. Good job :thumbsup

Lee,

I'd say left all the way, right is too bright.

In some HD screencaps the CC almost looks brown due to the lightning
so my guess is that it would be a darker orange....
It also matches best the pics in the Chronicles.

"WW beetle" spray can??

I like the left also, and if you choose to add some weathering, it will blend nicely with the darker hue.

Awe c'mon Lee where's your sense of andventure. Spray a little in a cup and pour in some of the model color, see what happens. :lol

LOL Flint man i sure would, but id probably melt a polar ice cap or something :lol.
Im glad the reaction is too the left, as soon as i used it it just seemed very very good, under all lighting here and in pics.
So OK, the color on the right, is Floquil Reefer orange, one that rings so true going by Chronicles pics and the jars of Floquil in the pic?
Now the color on the left.......is a Peugeot color called Seville....go figure, i bought several oranges to try out for this, and i wasnt going to botherwhen i saw Reefer in the jar, im pretty glad i played around with the auto paints.

Lee,

The left looks definetely more accurate. I have flat orange by humbrol that I will try, was humbrol available in UK back in the 70's

Id have to say a resounding yes GF, Humbrol was founded in 1920 i think, and i know my uncle was using them on his Airfix builds as a kid lol.
Flat orange sounds a good one to try, i dismissed it in my LHS but you never know.

Lee,

I found a old bottle of Humbrol orange#82 I had used it to make the orange stripes on my old MPC snowspeeder, I like the tone straight from the can, I will test it out when I have a chance. I'm very happy with what I see. Photos were taken with no flash towards natural sunlight.

GF, yes that does look very good, thanks, i may try some out while im not doing much with the kit.
It seems to have a good hue and not too rich in red.
Dan, as above, too much red will kill the color, there is no more red in it than what you see, its a true orange this ship, its just finding one to match varying ref material and lighting conditions.
The pics you posted ive had for a while and looked at over and over, im sure a lot of the problem lies in the fact its also covered in dust from what i can see. A problem im finding with exhibit shots.

Lee... this will be a welcomed site when you get this beastie built up and painted! ;) I think your's will set the bar high!... As usual! :D

LOL i hope so Kurt, lets just say to finish this build will really mean a lot to me, im so eager to get hard to work on her.
She wont be fully studio scale, as Iam going to add detailed cockpit tubs, i cant get past the foamcore inside, so this will tidy up the build somewhat.
I do look forward to others getting started on her though, just to see some progress!

I am VERY MUCH looking forward to viewing more of this beastie build. The cockpit tubs sound very sweet! :D

LOLOLOL.. I think many are watching this one Lee! You're the 'lead' example! ;) And GREAT it will be! (y)):thumbsup
