New blaster size is approximately 18 1/2 inches, slightly shorter than the original Sterling-based blaster. Nearly every component on the new blaster, while extremely similar to the original blasters, was scratch-modeled to be similar, but not from existing or useable parts. If someone can dispute this, awesome, but I dropped all of my other projects for a month to model this version, using both available and private references. I modeled the gun from the start with an actual scanned Sterling in the hopes that some parts might carry over, but even the VERY close ones don't. The EP 7 blaster is a natural transition, as created by the art designers, from the original we all know.
The only used-piece identified has been the butt-stock for (what I am calling) the assault model, the Advanced Technology Strikeforce stock, along with a modified scope and two mount points. Now, is all of this canon? Accurate? Spot on? Likely not. My point is this. I have accurately modeled an original blaster, nevermind an L2a3 Sterling from manufacturing blueprints. I am sure some details will be slightly off, but I also stuck with Celebration display references, and not the zip-tied garbage troopers were carrying there. JJ (and I) will do whatever it takes to make this blaster spot on. I only ask that everyone appreciate, JJ's blaster is not a fly-by-night piece. His dedication and R&D will show on the final piece.... He has had me revise things (and I do as well) that most will NEVER notice, but he does it because he respects the lineage, always asks fans what looks good/appropriate/proper, and listens to that feedback.
Is this the best blaster you can hope for now? I've no idea. BUT, I know the time I have put into it, and it is really well done. I didn't cut corners, and JJ is not known for cutting corners either. I have every dimension of the gun tattooed on my brain, and no measurement was taken lightly. I think we did well.
