EFX X Wing Arrival, Thoughts & Pictures

All these new pics look sssssooooooo much better than the first ones I saw. While not perfect, I will say it's pretty damn good.

Yeah I was really worried. Not any more though. :)

I sigh of relief from me as well. I think these latest shots are much more representative of what the eFX X-Wing looks like in the flesh. They are much less contrasty than the previous 'flash' photos and show a greater degree of subtlety in the paint job. Flash photos always mess with the look of these kinds of paint jobs. Still far from a perfect paint job but not bad considering it came out of a factory and looking much much better than previously. Feeling a lot better about this now.

Very nice model but definetely need a complete repaint to do it justice it deserves to illiminate that toyish cheap look, I can't wait to see a accurate realistic repaint and cover up those huge canopy hinges. they should have put "U" shape hinges from the inside to not affect the outside
design.

It really doesn't look toyish in person. I thought it would, but it looks much better.

I good weathering job will look realistic even in photos not just in person.

BTW Jcoffman thank you for posting nice photos.

But by the same token, crappy photos make the weathering look far worse than it is.

True but not as much, I've seen many bad ILM photos and the models still have a realistic weathering look to them, the thing that affects a good weathering is a flash which washes out everything and only the darkest weathering pops out.

Doesn't look toyish OR cheap AT ALL.

I dunno man... I'd be getting the primer out.

Its funny - the MR Falcon factory paint suffered from TOO much airbrushing over the streaks. This model seems to suffer from not enough weathering.

But at any rate, I think the respect this model deserves is in the physical arena. As has been said time and again, no factory paint job will meet the standards of the artists here, and for such artists, we don't expect that it would anyway.

I am waiting patiently for some one to stand this sucker on its engine cans next to a V3, or an Icons, or (ideally) a Maxi-Brute so we can really see how much bigger it is.

Yeah but we're not talking about the same thing...
The EFX X-Wing is a display model and that's cool if it looks better in personn than in photos.
Most of ILM paintjobs look like crap when you see it in personn but they are not display models ;) And they look pretty darn good and realistic on screen !

I just preordered one of these through BIGBADTOYSTORE and hopefully I should have it soon. I'm definitely going to be doing some repainting--I want to lighten up some of the darker grey on the right side of the fuselage. Plus I want to do the weathering that needs to be done to make it look like the V1s-V3s you guys have done. This site is definitely going to come in handy. I previously commented after the first few pics and said I was not impressed and thought it too toylike or that nose was just not right. But after further review, I think it was just those pics. Everything since has convinced me to buy one. I'm sold and I'll give it a go...

PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES.

Here are some comparison pictures.

PHarchivist had a great idea - standing on the fuselage -
so here they are!!

LOOK HOW MASSIVE IT LOOKS!!!!! (that's a v3 by the way!) I got down low to the ground the gun barrels are nearly perfectly straight up and down - which means that I was pretty level... You can see that the efx is much larger than the v3.

Oh and someone mentioned that the engine cones are weird looking? well i've had it open for 10 minutes and I already started taking it apart - (god I have to stop doing that!)... LOOK REMOVEABLE ENGINE CAPS!!! WITH REPLACEABLE LIGHTS!!! No more Falcon - one headlight going out problems! WOO HOO!!!

I wouldn't have really posted any pictures until I got some nice ones off of my dslr - (this is my crappy handheld) but those engine caps really made me feel like Efx put a lot of thought into this model - and I thank them very much for it.

I love it.

MY GOD! THAT RED 5 IS HUGE!!!! I am so glad I ordered one of these! Yes!

oh a side note - those who have received their efx red5 - Do you have your plaque? Is it in the box? did I miss it? or is Mark Hamill still signing them?

I'd hate to have to go into the attic to look for it again - let me know please - or else I"ll be stuck with no plaque. Thanks!

The first batch of unsigned plaques were lost by Fed-Ex. You will receive your signed plaque separately.

ah thank you thank you - Yea.. I just wasn't clear if they had made it to efx or not in time to throw into the boxes - no worries.

Thanks for the clarification Montagar

*Oh and I just found out that that whole engine replaceable led discovery I just made was also in the instruction manual - you know - the one that said how to open it and take it out safely and stuff - haha... how is anyone expected to read those first? I open these things up like a kid on christmas!"

Good god the difference pops immediately! Thanks for posting!

I suppose we can put that old addage finally to rest - size DOES matter!

Once I get my V3 built, I'll have to post similar pics compared to my converted Hasbro toy, as I believe the V3 is bigger than the toy (and hence the eFx would dwarf the toy).
