EFX Luke ROTJ reveal is going to be the Elstree version...

I'm surprised noone posted this, but maybe the email is just going out. The ROTJ reveal saber EFX is doing is the Elstree "lost footage" saber. I'm surprised Lucasfilm would okay this and even more surprised they figured enough people would buy a saber that was not in the movie and not even "official". Besides Rylo already did the ultimate version as far as I'm concerned so if I wanted it I'd have gotten his! :)

I too was wondering if Rylo was attached to this in any way.

I don't think they'd use his shop, since they could probably produce parts a whole lot cheaper in Asia. But it would make a whole lot of sense if they contacted him for the engineering of the detailed guts; since he's already done all the leg work.

I do hope they get the details right on the pommel cubes and grip spacing for this one. If anyone at EFX is listening, I would gladly give you guys my cad files to use on this project, since I want to see the pommel geometry on this saber look right.

I doubt it will come out. Look how long the Kenobi was in "development". what was it 2-3 years and then they scrapped it. Rylo's will be the final word on this reveal saber.

I was thinking they made a deal with Rylo, sent one of his reveal sabers to China, and the Efx is going to be a copy of the Rylo saber.

That makes the most sense to me. The prototyping and development are already done. Why reinvent the wheel.

I actually think this is a great idea for a lot of EFX's Star Wars stuff. So much fan made stuff is already about as good as it gets. Why not use the fan community to get things rolling quickly and cheaply with the highest level of attention to detail and care?

I actually wish more of this had been done with some of MRs early products. When they released their OWK ANH saber, I already had an original hand wheel in hand that could have been copied directly, and Gavidoc was producing more accurate emitters than MR came out with. Why not use the knowledge that is there? (I'm not MR bashing, just pointing out a missed opportunity for the sake of future endeavors)

What's all this Rylo talk? If he lets them use one of his sabers to mass produce, I'm gonna be pissed.

They scrapped the version they were working on because of development problems. They said they are going to start over on it. That is very different than completely scapping something. I for one don't have a problem with a company taking their time to make a better product.

With all of the EFX bashing, I'm waiting for the "I miss MR" posts that usually come with them.

Guys, while I appreciate the compliments, I just don't have anything to do with this. Besides, Bryan is a talented engineer who is perfectly capable of producing his own unique version of this prop.

This is not the best idea for this company at this time. And we will never see a funcional liscensed piece as nice as Rylo's. It would be astronomically expensive.

I think this saber is a bad move for this company. But will wait to see what they come up with.

I feel that if they want to go out on a limb and do things differently they need to FIRST make copies of all of the helmets in the archive one at a time. They need to release an EXACT copy TK helmet. Stunt AND hero. They need to make a boush. And DEFFINATELY a Royal gaurd.

I would bet my life that they would sell better than ANYTHING MR produced. I know I know... we have discussed it many times that "regular" people don't want all the bumps and warts... I say include close up pics from the movie and archives showing WHY the replica looks the way it does. The newbie can now get a feel of what we all love by knowing a bit more about the piece.

I really think it would work nowadays. We will see with the Vader... it is a first step into a larger world of liscensed replicas. :)

I can assure you that's not the case. Again, Bryan and company are skilled engineers and more than capable of producing their own props.

The method by which one may produce a ridiculously small amount of pieces for a few die-hards would differ greatly from a mass produced set-up.

Simply put. We're really talking apples and oranges as far as the construction process goes. My work wouldn't really do them any good.

I look forward to whatever EFX offers and I'm certain it will appeal to the masses which is rather the point anyway. Again, it's not really fair to compare a couple pieces from a hobby run to a mass produced, full-on run. They simply appeal to two different groups.

You have to remember, many of us at the RPF are insane die-hards. We hardly create a ripple in the larger world of mainstream collectors out there.

Give 'em a break. :)

That's not to say they got hold of one of yours and used it as a proto.
