EFX DARTH VADER ANH PCR HELMETS (SPECIAL and STANDARD EDITIONS)

The casual collector is not going to shell out over a grand for a helmet. I don't think the PCRs will hurt the fiberglass prices one iota. They will still command a high price.

My point was that if the only helmet available was the more pricey fiberglass original, then the average collector might buy one- because there wouldn't be many other options. But now they have this cheaper option. In any case it would have been nice to know they were planning to release this cheaper version.

Okay, I am being serious here, but why would it matter? I am going to use myself as an example. I haven't got enough interest in ANH Vader to spend $1500 on one. If they had an ESB Vader for that price point, I'd have been on it like a fat kid on cake. Now that they have this offering, I am willing to shell out under $400 for a passable ANH Vader.

The PCRs are a nice little "gateway drug" into these buckets. The PCR Trooper has not hurt any of the other licensed or unlicensed offerings out there. Now, if you are telling us here that you have a Limited or Legendary ANH Vader and are regretting it, I think you are going to be in a huge minority of owners.

Ok, pretend it was an ESB helmet. And then they put out one at less than 1/3 the price, which was basically identical (except to hardcore helmet nerds ;) ).

Hypothetically, I just think I might have considered the cheaper option had I known they might release this one eventually. Anyway, that's all i wanted to know. Thanks.

Not meaning to interject into your folks' analyses, but I received mine a few weeks ago. Looks mighty nice in my office (not sure what the message it sends, given I'm HR, but anyhow...)

It is a lovely helmet for what it is. I also own the EpIII fiberglass Vader, and they each are neat in their own way (EpIII is at home in a RS case).

I have tried it on and for those of you who wish to sport this out and about, yes; get some padding. Otherwise, it will bug your forehead something fierce. (Wore it once, swung an FX a few times, boxed it up, put it on my shelf at work).

In any event, from a more rank and file perspective, it's a fun addition. My daughter thought so, too.

Did eFX ever mention they were producing these cheaper helmets back when they sold the original fiberglass ones? Would have been nice for eFX to tell people that they were eventually going to release a cheaper injection molded helmet. I'd imagine this might impact value of those fiberglass helmets a bit, at least to the casual collector.

Anyone that bought the more expensive fiberglass helmet and would rather have the PCR shouldn't have any trouble selling the fiberglass helmet. There is still plenty of demand for them and no more will be made.

It isn't unusual for a company to have a limited edition version of a product and an unlimited version that is a little different. They aren't always announced at the same time.

I just did a quick search and saw the lowest price on a Limited on the auction site was 1400. A legend was listed for over 3k.

A Limited sold for $960 on Ebay as an auction only. ...however, the photos shown by the seller suggested it was a Legend.

When looking for prices on ebay, do not always go by the buy it now prices. A lot of sellers way over price their items so they never actually sell.

No real impact on the LE and Legend fiberglass helmets. They still sell for big bucks, for much more than their original price. The PCR and LE/Legend are not truly competitors as they address slightly different markets.

It does look nice. And I believe the implicit HR message it sends to problematic employees is "Don't fail me again!"

Fun picture! Ah kids these days don't know how good they've got it. Some of us waited 40 years to get an accurate ANH Vader helmet at this price. Takes me back when I was kid wearing the Don Post standard helmet holding a lightsaber made from a flashlight with a plastic golf club holder attached thinking I was all that!

Now we know that Darth Vader built the Kylo Ren lightsaber!:lol

I am afraid that the Special version wil not be made available so i am thinking of getting the standard of the bay,
But ive got a question regarding that.

How difficult is it to repaint the standard version to look like the special version?

What kind of paint and color and looks of the C-scar, those kind of things

FYI, got ZERO exp and skills in those areas :D

Mine showed up and I love it! The plastic is a little thin, and I'd be happier if it was about $100 cheaper, but it is my first true ANH helmet (I still have the 1977 Don Post). I was holding out for the fancier paint scheme, but am quite happy with the pristine look. I'd have to see the other in-hand before deciding which I'd prefer.

Now I'm mulling over whether or not to cancel the Anovos. No rush to decide, apparently.

How far we've come in about 40 years...

I don't remember it being that small! It used to fit me pretty well... as a child.

The new one, of course, is big enough to fit David Prowse. Anybody wearing it for any length of time (other than Mr. Prowse) will probably have to add a lot of padding. Still, it's a very cool piece!

Even Mr Prowse describes the helmet as 'miles too big' in the bonus video here:

They had to add foam, just so the helmet would turn with his head.

Thanks to everyone for sharing pics of the helmet! I want one so bad, but really can't afford it right now.

And the efx website is still not working. I do not understand how they can let their website sit there not working for this long now. Even if they had to remake it from scratch, it should not take this long as their website is pretty basic.
