eFx Collectibles Announce THE AVENGERS Limited Edition Replicas

Although I was not at all surprised to receive the email announcing a delay in the production of the Cap shield, I do appreciate that they sent it. Honestly if the shield shows up by the end of September I'll be impressed/content.

That sucks...

Well, let's hope that you still get the shield before we get our King Arts shields here in Hong Kong. We're scheduled to get ours 4th quarter 2014, so I'm kind'a expecting to get mine in November or December.

Honestly, that's how they convinced me to order direct from them and do the full payment option. The promise of early delivery. I will be pretty ticked if it arrives after Halloween.

I'm guessing this is dstlouis28's first purchase, though it's pretty widely reported that eFX never delivers on time. Retail partners also always get their inventory after eFX direct customers, pretty standard practice for most collectibles as Sideshow and Hot Toys do the same thing.

OK so Halloween has come and gone.

On Aug. 1 eFX had a wall of shields seemingly ready to go. Then on Sep. 23 eFX announced on Facebook that it had received samples, was inspecting them then talking to the factory about any issues "in the next day or so". Fast forward to Nov. 5 and there's been no further updates. Six weeks of silence.

Anyone else thinking they discovered some significant issues with quality control? (glass half empty) Or is 6 - 8 weeks about the amount of time it takes to ship a container of shields from Asia! (glass half full)

Just a guess but I suspect the delay has to do more with final approval from Marvel and/or shipping delays from China. There's a large backlog of containers up and down the west coast for the last few weeks, so if it's already shipped from the factory it's probably stuck in transit.

Posted on their Facebook page on Nov 13:

"The first container with the Captain America shields will be shipped from Hong Kong this weekend! These shields will be allocated to the customers who purchased the shield with the Full Payment option. The container should arrive in about 2 weeks. However, as some of you may have heard, there is a slowdown at all of the ports on the west coast, so custom clearance is taking longer than usual. We will contact all the customers who have a confirmed pre-order when they arrive. For customers who place a pre-order with the $200 deposit, we should be shipping the next container in a few weeks. Thanks for your patience!"

So, efx shields will be available for you guys soon?

Shield #122 arrived yesterday. After much debate of the compare/contrast with the upcoming King Arts shields throughout waiting for the shield to arrive, I knew better than to doubt eFX's track record of quality. They do not disappoint with Captain America's Shield. I am very pleased with my purchase and am impressed with the paints apps and how it appears to be spun aluminum. I have the aforementioned KA on pre-order and am not sure what I'll do with them. If this is the only shield to reside in my home, I'm pleased. Here are some pics and thoughts:

Up-close shots.
Precision with the paint apps and the appearance of spun aluminum (If you're not familiar with this shield, it is made of fiberglass like the stunt prop from the Avengers movie...King Arts promotes an aluminum shield). It looks very impressive.

Everyday viewing on wall mount
This thing looks great on the wall! The wall mount is the lone downer for me. Perhaps I was spoiled by the sheer awesomeness of eFX's Mjolnir stand as this wall mount pales in comparison. I will look into coming up with my own mount as the logos detract from the shield for me. I would have preferred the transparent supports without logos. If you plan on displaying a 1:1 scale shield on a pedestal and not on a wall, you will need a large space.

On display with other replicas
Here's the shield on display with my other replicas. The shield isn't centered as I went with a pre-existing hole while mulling over what to do with a custom wall mount. As you can see, the shield fits in beautifully with eFX's Thor's Mjolnir.

Great job, eFX! The gong case that comes with is an excellent and thoughtful inclusion. Bravo!

I read a lot of heat towards eFX regarding delays, etc and feel that their past history bit them on this order. This shield went up for PO in May 2014 and was still delivered to my door well under a year from PO. Sideshow statues are almost always at least a year wait. There was one delay that appeared to be QC-related but we shouldn't complain about eFX's insistence on delivering top notch stuff...the consumer wins by waiting a bit longer. The nearly month long delay in December-January was beyond eFX's control with the port strike.

In the end, this is a superb product and currently hangs proudly in my collection. Congrats to all of those who got in on the pre-orders and will get theirs in the near future!

Thanks a lot for the review. I will get mine from the 2nd batch as I ordered it with the $200 deposit.

That being said, and I know it's always hard to say from pictures, but based on your pics of the shield and a few unboxing videos that I saw so far, I think the finish pales in comparision with my two aluminium shields. And it's not just the lack of reflection but I find the brush strokes they used to simulate the spun aluminium rather cheap looking and overall the finish looks really flat/toyish to me. The engraving of the star is definitely subpar (and clearly not deep enough) and that wall mount looks absolutely horrendeous.

I'll have to wait to get mine and see it in person but based on what I saw of this shield so far, I doubt I'm gonna keep it. At least it should be a fairly easy sale.

Thank You, bdoggwhite for the up close pics, yours are by far the best photos I have seen of the actual shield someone has had in hand. Looking at it, it is really nice! I really want to see more clearly the back of the shield.

I do partially agree with JKKS in regard to the star detailing, but the shield matches very closely the Avengers Shield(for most scenes), and the Shield used in Winter Soldier. As Kevin Gosset stated the detail issue is more on the design. I think the Aluminum shields match much more closely the shield used in The First Avenger.

Aesthetically I like the Aluminum better, but I still think this may be the best shield for a MCU collection, as it is part of a limited run of officially licensed shields. I also purchased this and need to justify the significant cost. This is the first high end officially licensed prop I have bought so I cant wait to get it, and see it and hold it in person. Also from what I have seen this is actually cheaper than most of the really nice aluminum shields I have seen being built on this site, and the Kings Art shield.

I am waiting anxiously for mine to arrive on Friday afternoon, I just got a shipping label sent to me yesterday. I did not get in on the original EFX pre order but did get one of the first 200 for $650 shipped from a third party retailer on ebay back in July. I am curious to see if that ends up being a good buy after all of these have been shipped.

Nice! Glad you liked the shield, bdoggwhite. I can see now from your photos that the segmented lines in the star do exist after all (the photo I posted on the King Arts thread from one of efx's customer on their Facebook page looked like they were totally missing). From your photos I noticed those few "rings" on the silver part of your shield. Do they bother you, or is that just the way the light catches them?

Like dstlouis28 said, I too would like a look at the back of the shield.

Can't wait to see what you come up with as an alternate wall mount.
