In my opinion this is a huge disappointment. That pole looks awful, it's like the start of a bad joke: the EFX AT-ST enters in a bar and sits on a stool... Mediocre piece, which comes with a weird stand (I know its history, and still it is a weird choice), is only sold through EFX, at a pretty high price for what you get. EASY PASS.

Seems easy enough to address if this is how it ends up looking.
I'm not sure that would help, because I don't believe EFX considered that connector in the back to support the model in the fist place. Code 3 had that connector too (and no need for a rod or extra support for their diecast model), and that makes me think about where both were inspired from...

I'm just suggesting that an alternate - less ridiculous - support could be figured regardless. It does seem silly it can't be self-supporting. But also not that big of a deal to make something work besides what is shown. And note they do say the pose is not final, so it's not totally clear that is what will be there when it ships. In three years, lol.

Even a clear support/rod would not look much better. Most other studio scale AT-ST's produced by various licensed companies or unlicensed makers come with metal armature in legs, thus no need for a separate support, some using the back support though. This EFX piece being a display piece, it could have been made with that type of armature instead of a rod that looks like a bar stool. I'm still sure all those 300 AT-ST's that are up for sale will sell, as there are many suckers for licensed stuff, but this is a big step down from other EFX models.

Certainly a missed opportunity if this is the final product - though It's not entirely clear that it is. What do they mean by not the final pose? It's almost hard to imagine what material it could be made out of that would even NEED a support like that. Pretty strange really. Which makes me think it's maybe just a printed prototype.

But were I to get one and it showed up like that, I would just do a support from whatever side didn't show on my shelf. Straight out and then down. Nothing underneath. I'm planning something similar for a SS Probedroid that has a "collar" in the neck and then an "L' shaped support off the non-viewing side. That way there is nothing underneath, which really ruins things, and seems to float, while still allowing the head to rotate.

As long as it's cast and not printed it's seems not a terrible value for a subject of casual interest. Most of the cheaper 3d print options will probably be dust in 15 years. And resin kits also need support.

But I agree - pretty dumb not to be just self-supporting.

Why oh why they couldn’t have the support in the rear of the armature is beyond me. I get it sits like that in the archives but when filmed it didn’t. I’m working on the Merlin model at the moment. Honestly the best kit I’ve EVER built. The machined armature is insane! It’s beautiful!!!
