Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

If they reduced the height of the tooth shaped parts on those helmets tabs, basically making them half spheres, without that cylindrical shaft extension underneath the spheroidal shape. That might stop them from snapping tight into the corresponding negative form/shape. So these tabs wont break or snap off from wear and tear or cosplay.

In fact it wouldn't hold the dome on the helmet, it would just ensure perfect alignment of the two parts, while preserving the legacy of the props true design.

To enforce the hold, they could conceal strong earth magnets under the tabs inside the casting, with a corresponding set of strong earth magnets concealed inside the negative/female tab shape mounts inside the dome.

I bet it would work. You want to be as faithful to the true prop as you can, but you don't want to let these two parts lock into themselves like they did for the film, because we know the stress snapped off the tips of the teeth in the tabs after a few on/offs.

2 or 3 magnets in each tab inside the helmet and 2 or 3 magnets for each negative shape connector inside the dome.

I don't have high hopes for this project, but ideally, for the mass produced helmet, take the magnet idea, create semi accurate "tab shaped" pieces which contain the magnets and have negatives up inside the dome. It won't be screen accurate but it could be 99%. Of course without the proper bumps and lumps, and ugly paintjobs.......the rest is sort of pointless. I just don't think they'll keep the collectors in mind on this product. They will keep the rich kid at Disney World in mind. It will need to be flawless and that just ain't my idea of an ANH Vader helmet.

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

It's pathetic that it took this long from someone to make a replica of this helmet. I'm so sick of seeing the episode three travesty.

That said, I can't wait for this.

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

Well the one person that can clear all this up would appear to be Gino from what he's said. After all he is the 'one' cleanng this up.
Gino can you clarify what this will look like??
Mounting system, tabs, paint, dings, dents, grills, lenses and tusks etc..... :confused

I for one would be pleased if it came out of the mould as is with hand painted gun metal etc. As per original. #3

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

I dont think we will get an answer what will be made in details, which parts on the helmet will be cleaned etc. The only thing which is 100% sure is that the guys who are involved in that project will have a cast right out of the mold;)

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

Which Vader helmet do you currently own?

My collection was thinned down drastically. I had a DP DLX, a SPFX ESB, an Elstree ROTJ, a DS 20thCentury...

The ones I currently own are a GH ROTJ and a JRX TM ROTJ.

How did the DS 20th century compare to a TM ROTJ in terms of size and shape?

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

The dome attachment mechanism has not been finalized, but I can say that it won't be the original ANH 3 tab system.
On the screen used ANH helmet, the tab method was so inefficient and temperamental that it was abandoned for ESB.
You can only imagine the frustration it would create for the general consumer.
As far as the clean up goes, as I said before, it is super minimal.
Only the topical surface blemishes have been affected. The overall shape and surface landscape (ie, lumps, bumps, asymmetry, etc..) will remain intact. Only the little surface scratches, dings & dents were cleaned up.
Hope this sheds a little more light on things.

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

About what I expected regarding the cleanup for a licensed piece.

Any thoughts on what can be done as a dome mount instead or... would they rather not divulge those considerations at this time?

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

If this product looks exactly like the DJ and/or SL helmet, I might have to get one.

Here's hoping it does!

Cheers,

Ryan

Thanks Gino.
Sounds promising. Can't wait to see it.

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

What about the lenses, tusks and grills? Will eFX look for accurate stuff? It would ruin the look a little bit if they use inaccurate stuff with a good helmet.

Also i would like to know why there was made "clean up" work if its only some scratches, digs and dents.....makes no sense for me because the helmet would be even more interesting for the hardcore fans.

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

I dont think that anyone of the 99% would have a problem with that.
There wont be many of them made...it the most important helmet of the complete saga and eFX will easily sell all of them...regardless the finish. But if they publish this helmet...why not making it perfect....only one time without any faults.

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

On a run of say, 5,000 peices, at a price of $900 - what percentage goes to 'general consumers' and what goes to hard core fans? I've gotta believe that breakdown is skewed way towards the hard core side of things.

Given Gino's description though, that does not seem like a concession to the 'general consumer'....

I always thought so too, but I recently have been told we (super detail oriented collectors) aren't nearly as large of a consumer group as we might like to think when compared to the average prop consumer. 3% was the number that I was given. I am sure that changes from company to company and product to product. I tend to think we made a pretty significant dent in the HCG Pulse Rifle run as well as the Weta Arc Generator run, but especially in this economy I think we make less of an impact than we might think and should remember that these companies exist to make a profit (which isn't a bad thing) so they are going to pander to consumers who are helping make them the most profit. Based on what I have heard, that isn't us, so you can't be too surprised when they don't bend to our every whim and demand and if the percentage of sales that we account for are truly as low as indicated, I am amazed that they are willing to listen at all!

Re: eFX ANH Vader?!?! WOW

Well how about they make 3% of the helmets for the hardcore. Problem solved!:lol
