Q & A with eFX Bryan from rebelscum forum

Bryan from eFX was on the rebelscum forum last night answering questions. This is what he said about the Vader helmet.

Q: Who is going to be painting the hand painted Vader details?
A: The factory in China. They will copy, to their best of their ability the great prototypes that Gino made. As you know the Chinese excel at copying!

Q: Will the Vader dome be magnets again?
A: The Vader helmet will have the cylinder similar to the one that was used in the ESB Vader helmets. Gino and I have had many discussions on this and our vendor in Asia agrees that if it works, why change it. The only issue that we still have is a method to keep the widows peak flush with the face mask. Right now we are using a MASSIVE piece of velcro! haha!

Q: Regarding Vader Helmet, how much is shipping going to be to the United Kingdom & is there any incentive (discounts) to buy both versions at the same time from your site?
A: We do not have the dimensions for the packaging yet, since as you know we do extensive testing to ensure that it arrives safely. Also, FedEX keeps changing their rates, especially now with the escalating cost of fuel, so what we quote now may not be the same in a few months. But if you want to get an estimate, go to fedex.com and get an estimate. Here is the data to use : size: 32" X 24" X 18" and 30 lbs. This will give you an approximate cost if it were to ship today. Also note that we extend our discount to you, as well. . . so it will be a little less

Q: Will the stand for the New Vader helmets be the standard round stand or will it have a square base like the McQ Vader did?
A: Like the McQ base so that you can get a cover

Q: Why such a low edition size for the Vader Legend?
A: This is a very unique item in that the painting and molding is not pristine. Most people will want the limited edition because it is a little more idealized and pristine. Most do not realize what a "mess" the screen accurate one is! Also, once again, because this is Vader, we wanted to make a highly collectible version. The extra cost is because we have to set up a special production area the handpaine some of the detail for just 250 pieces

This last question, though not about the Vader directly, does talk about the factories in China they use for production.
Q: With the success of the Luke reveal are there any plans for expansion the reveal (lightsaber) line?
A: We are now in the process of redesigning the Obi. That is NOT dead!! As many of you know, we had a issue with the cost of the tooling to die cast the internal parts. The reveal lightsabers is one of my favorite products that we have worked on!
There are quite a good number of products in line but the lead time is long. As we understand quality is of top priority, is there a plan to improve the production facility to be able to cope? Surely the number of requests for new products won't cease.
We use very small factories for most of our items. They are the only ones who can deliver our products at the quality that we require. Our items are literally hand made, almost one by one! They do not have long conveyor belts like a typical toy factory. Also, it takes a huge investment on our part to properly train the factories and make them understand what a "replica" means and is! When we started MR back in 2001, it took almost a year to train the first factory! In fact the first Luke ROTJ lightsaber, they actually made 3 times the ordered quantity to be able to ship the quantity that we ordered!

Below is the FedEx quote by using their site calculator :thumbsdown - this is intended for non-US collector that might want the Vader helmet directly from eFX - you can do it yourselves here: https://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/hom...&locId=express :wacko Please tell me it is less!!

Does that include taxes or whatever is charged in your country?

For just shipping that seems, well, obscene, doesn't do it justice. I did up a quick USPS quote for shipping 1200 miles away with the specs in the QA and it was $67 for parcel post (didn't list options for faster). I know it's not international shipping which is more, but shouldn't be 10x more.

Just did it up to same domestic destination using Fedex, and for 3 day delievery it was $78.

There simply HAS to be than simple shipping charges for over 600.

Reminds me of the time I order a soccer jersey from england. It was something like 80-90 bucks for the jersey and 6 weeks later I got a bill from UPS for customs charges or something like that for over 20 bucks. Hefty fee for a shirt!

Just did more research. It's the country or the tax. Has to be. I just did LA to romania and it got me $900! Shipping to the UK via USPS was $400. Not to mention I had to use a box size of 24/24/18 or it wouldn't even calculate either. Yikes!

These are not the customs taxes or VAT. Those are extra and thus for the money paid on shipping and taxes you can easily buy another Vader helmet. I wish Vlad the Impaler would be here to take care of these greedy fellas. :angry

Anyway, there were some guys from UK on Rebelscum saying that they got the Mc Vader helmet directly from US and shipping was $250 by FedEx economy. But this option doesn't show on their site.

And it doesn't explain the lack of the rest of the finer details... but I understand that LFL would probably not feel so comfortable with a pristine copy of the ANH Vader helmet out in mass.

I guess my point is that it bothers me a bit that it is touted as being a perfect copy of the LFL mask and helmet when it clearly has been 'tainted'.

Wow, that's amazing.

I just priced a flight from LA to Melbourne, roundtrip, and that came in at 1466 on Qantas (with a stop). And that's for a person to make the trip there and back, not just one way.

It's really stunned me actually. I haven't bought anything in ages and thought that I'd give myself a treat, it would be tight, but I could manage it. But with that shipping quote and customs on top of that, there's not a chance in hell I can afford it.

I'll just have to admire pics people post up I'm afraid :cry

Cheers,

Kraig

I am getting a $300 quote to ship it to North Carolina. WTH!!! I don't know if i can swing $1300. This is ridiculous.

It's definitely been tainted. I wonder if Bryan knows just how much? Curious! No surprise considering who did the work and is now trying to mislead others about the castings from the mould.

I don't get all the hate towards Bryan, EFX, and GINO.

A small number of select people over the years have had the connections and the money to purchase Vader helmets with direct sources to a screen-used one. There are the GH, the DJ, the SL, the DM maybe ? - I don't remember all the makers.

They were produced in small runs, had big price tags, and were only sold to those who could be 'trusted' not to cast copies. Very few people got helmets from those runs (when compared to the total number of Vader collectors).

Now a company comes along that has access to a copy of not only a screen-used helmet, but a confirmed copy of *the* ANH helmet and is making NOT scanned versions but actual casts from the original molds.

AND everything has to go through LFL for approval before it's sold to us.

Now, for regular a regular Joe like me I can finally get an accurate Vader helmet with lineage to a screen-used helmet from a top-notch company that isn't a reworked, reshaped, recasted piece of junk AND I can get it for a reasonable price.

What do you guys think really happened ? Bryan and EFX said "Hey GINO, do whatever you want with this helmet, we'll sell whatever you give us".

Do you guys really think Bryan is that stupid ? Or un-knowledgeable about the original helmet ? Or he hasn't done his homework ?

Do you think LFL said "Yeah, make whatever, we trust you guys. We don't need to see it first".

Believe me, I'm far from GINO's best friend, but I doubt he was given 'free reign' to do whatever he wanted with the helmet. Unless this is your first day with Props then you know that when a big Prop Company makes a prop they strive for accuracy and as accurate as the License Holder approves in regards to what they want representing their Brand.

I know what you're going to say: "But they *could* have given us what we wanted- a helmet straight from the molds with no clean-up".

Yeah, that would have been cool, but it's not what EFX and LFL wanted, and not what EFX and LFL are releasing. We are getting the helmet they want to make.

If you like it, cool. Buy one.

If you don't like it, also cool. Don't buy one.

I'll be pre-ording mine this Friday.

The DJ and SL are both helmets from the same mold as the eFX.

I think it is to be expected that a licensed helmet will be sanitized to some extent. It just seems there's some misinformation being spread regarding how much.

The eFX is the best licensed Vader helmet offered to date. It will be hard to top, imo.

I don't get all the hate towards Bryan, EFX, and GINO.

Seems pretty clear to me.

Bitterness.

Resentment.

Jealousy.

A desperation to blindly and ignorantly attack anything that is perceived as a threat...

...and a hive where all those who feel that way can stew about it, and generate utter fabrication amongst their cabal until it spills over here.

Think that pretty much sums it up, but I'll bet most people knew that already and see it for what it is.

I take it you are referring to The Den. Good to know how you feel, Art.

Did anyone say that it was bitterness, resentment or jealousy when we discussed issues with the Don Post helmets, Rubies helmets, other licensed products? Anyone? Or did most people agree that they were not exactly as they were represented and that it would have been better if it had been presented for what it really was and for what had really been done to the casts. Am I wrong here... or do people only see bitterness, resentment and jealousy because a certain individual is involved in the production of this piece? Is that really it?

Seems pretty clear why most Vader discussions are no longer had here. I certainly know that anything I say here is seen as an attack on the RPF and certain people regardless.

Sadly.
