Funny, we've been looking at this mask and studying it for what....30+ years and still we don't know what it really looks like...:lol

The paintjob is correct. Check your reference (super secret or otherwise) folks!
Heres a nice one for the color of the tube, gunmetal. (but looks black in some pics)

I think that area is definitely shows up looking black in some pictures. Perhaps the gunmetal didnt go up very heavily and black shows though on the real helmet?

Explain the black tusk tube.

You can't.

It doesn't make sense unless the parts that GINO now wants to be gunmetal was repainted black again after being brushed with gunmetal, hence the appearance of brushstrokes on those areas, though, with a generally darker look than the rest of the gunmetal. Clearly they didn't use the same black as it was originally sprayed with... or it was applied poorly, like the gunmetal.

The left outer mouth wall and the right tusk tubes were black.

Davey Jones, No it's definitely black. But the goof is when they brushed, different areas of the mask picked up alot of black and others ended up more gunmetal. Keep in mind the entire helmet was first sprayed gloss black. The gunmetal came later. There are at least 10 shades of gunmetal on the original helmet due to the mixing of the black into the paint. The tusk tubes may have been intended to be gunmetal, but they are absolutely not the same color as the gunmetal areas adjacent to them.

Outer left mouth wall; Looks pretty gunmetal to me. In some pictures you can see the brush strokes even more clearly.

But where, Carsten? I did not even notice that both sides of the mask were brush painted until I looked at those screen caps. I am not saying you can see them, but I do see the brush strokes on both sides of the mouth.

As Dave pointed out, even the gunmetal being the same color looks black in some cases. There are probably images we are not privy to in regards to the paint masters.

Hell, I was wrong about the accuracy dilemma from LFL.

Here is a ponder point. How many of the serious Vader crowd will buy this helmet AND leave the paint on it anyway? I think we can count it in the single digit percentile. Arguing the paint is moot, but I can see why. We haven't gotten any clear shots of the faceplate to nibble at.

Well, the helmet in and of itself is a must buy and the issues with the paint scheme can easily be fixed if that is desired.

Hi guys. Comic Con is looking like it is going to just be amazing. I would really like to do a better shoot, but here are some initial pics of the hand painted Darth Vader helmet being displayed at the eFx booth. I didn't take pics of the idealized version, primarily because I didn't think too many people here would be overly concerned with that one.
