eFX A New Hope Darth Vader Helmet

To me, all those highlighted artifacts on Vader's right cheek look as though someone just touched it before the black paint had a chance to dry over the gunmetal paint underneath and smudged it up with their fingers.

Not likely is it as the black paint was the base and the gunmetal was painted over it.

Can't everyone just understand...........just like gino said, the production team intentionally created all the Vader costume paint ops and there are no blemishes. There are no divots, no pinholes, no gouges, worms or scratches, they just painted it to look that way on purpose because it is part of the character, it's meant to look like that!

Which is exactly what you would expect when you view the next 4 versions of Vader.......they were so happy with all the "paint ops" and the crazy success of SW, yet they forgot to add them in ESB, ROTJ, and ROTS. What a bunch of morons, I don't get it.

Those idiots working on all the other films simply forgot! We should be directing our anger at those pinheads instead of the people telling us there are no C scars in this thread!!! For Pete's sake!!!!

Again, congrats to those that nabbed one or both of the eFX helmets. I was shooting for the Legend, but may have to settle for the limited.

Bryan, you are very kind to even post here concerning your process with this baby, I know it was a true labor of love on your part. :) I don't believe it would have turned out any better if Rick Baker had done the work himself. If I end up being too far down the wait list and it simply doesn't happen for me, I pray that you follow with an ESB and or ROTJ Vader as well. An ESB would bring tears to the eyes of most collectors as I believe that is probably the vast majority of Vader enthusiasts. The ESB Vader was the version that first got me into the propster hobby in the first place. Again, well done!!! I know it's off topic, but any news on the Muppets??? I know I talked your ear off at CV about them. If you don't want to post in this thread, please, start a muppet thread over in the OT. :)

I've always heard grey over black. But I think it woulda made sense to paint the whole thing grey FIRST. Cause there is more grey than black. The neck. The forehead. Then it coulda had a light wash or dry brushed black over top of all the gun metal sections.

The black parts Then painted over the grey in deep gloss black. Then dry brushed a bit of gun metal over the black. It was then lightly scratched or smudged while still a bit uncured.

That to me makes the most sense. Though l know it has always been said with certainty for as long as I remember that the black was first...

Just my shot at a different theory! LOL! :p

I know your just being sarcastic at this point but..

Fett had an entirely different suit in ROTJ.

Well I'm pretty sure it was black first then gray metallic. I mean, the gray is bursh on. Do you really think they'd brush most of the helmet in gray and then spray black accents? I'm sure they would have likely sprayed the whole mask in gray if that went on first, then brushed the black on. The gray was an afterthought the get the black mask not to wash out on film.

I do like all these different theories though... This is becoming a fun thread again/ :)

I do have one curious thing on my mind gino, you made an accusation a bit ago that all the UK helmet guys simply added in their C-scar and that's why it is identical to the screen helmet even with overlays, yet your well documented expertise with this helmet, you kinda missed the correct location of the C-scar with your paint ops. It's off by nearly a centimeter laterally actually. I'm not knocking it, it still looks perfect in shape and form, pretty accurate indeed. I'm just curious about that discrepancy on the cheek of your paintjob since these things are supposedly so easy to do for all those other C-scar fudging folks. Maybe I totally misread your statement, Clarify?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, any pics of the moulds showing that big grandpappy divot on the brow of the dome??? I'm still dying to see if the now famous Baker mould has that sucker. It really would be a dream come true sir. :)

So.........:rolleyes...any news from efx about the display base of the legend or the limited...????, or....how about the weather in Aruba????...any???

Charles, was it my imagination or did someone mention a base that you could add an acrylic cover to later if you wanted? I'm curious about that too. You definitely would want to protect that baby! :)

This IS the OT FRIDAY night drinking thread? RIGHT???

I'm lost...

Man...

I've been using a LOT of "...'s" lately in this thread.

Was ... Or .... More accurate?

Where is munsonberry?

There is a total lack of some of that!

Very little Mike Davis and literally NO Larry Young.

I'm a lil dissapointed to be honest with you.

Ken, that doesn't require an acrylic cover my friend, you just need a little aluminum foil hat to block the evil ideas being beamed directly into your brain dude!

That's right Ken, you are lost, you wanna go straight down the front of the dome, stay to the left side, but watch out for that humongous divot, you could break an ankle in that thing!!!!

For the record... I pulled out my own casting from the Baker/ILM mold this afternoon to have a closeup inspection and I do, in fact, see something that clearly resembles the "C" scar... but it looks more like a scratch in the paint to me. This is a completely unmodified casting. Take it or leave it.

Hi,

If you are serious about this - which it sounds like you are. Did you get a raw cast of the faceplate/mask and the helmet/dome? Or just the mask?

I am presuming you have pics?

Cheers Chris

I think he means he has unboxed the helmet he has which is from the Baker moulds, not that he has pulled a new cast from the Baker moulds.
