EDIT - ICONS Tie Production Castings.....

Re: ICONS Tie Masters.....

Agreed, too extreme, would kill the forum.

We had periodic registration up until this year. They still got back on, and with the 'intensive moderation' thing you're asking the mods to do a huge body of detective work.

Socks eventually out themselves or revert to the behaviours that got them banned in the first place, so it all balances out...

The database should have a field that shows when a user last logged in.... if you have not logged in within a week, and havn't sent a note to the admins, then the account should be flagged and require communication to the admin to be re-enabled.

It's fairly simple to run a sql query against the database like:

select users, ip, email, lastlogin from data_base where (lastlogin >= 09/13/2010);

Aside from that, vBulletin is not free and probably has some pretty good tools.. I haven't see the admin interface though.

Re: ICONS Tie Masters.....

Sure, it can be partiaully automated...but you're still requiring admins to field an additional umpteen hundred messages a week.

This is a big forum and from the little hints they drop at times, the workload is already high.

Re: ICONS Tie Masters.....

I think this is completely off topic to this thread .. but I'll still chime in that as interest for me goes up and down depending on the seasons .. and I don't think it should be to the admins to worry about what my reasons are to not log onto the site. Seriously, I'm pretty sure these guys have a lot of other stuff to worry about ... my 0.02 cents.

Not all of them, if you have several it's easy to keep an eye on things going on. And sacrifice some of them.

When the RPF went to new ownership, opening up the registration is one of the mistakes they made. Sure it can increase membership, but it increases the amount of work chasing down this kind of behavior. Besides the fun of keeping out the spam-bots.

But these sections are open to everybody to view. It isn't necessary to register to lurk. It's been that way as long as I've been here.

Re: ICONS Tie Masters.....

I found something interesting whilst doing my research.
Ive had mails regarding these castings & at the end of the day believe them to be Icons production castings that were taken from Icons when it abruptly closed.
The only thing that will be done with these is make me a Tie Fighter from what is supposed to be castings of an actual ILM Tie Fighter supplied to Icons by an 'ex-ILM employee'.
The XWing castings were said to have been supplied by John Eaves.
The moulding of the original Tie Fighter castings was done by Al Zequiera.
Thought beaz woulod like this one :cool

Article here:

Icons Authentic Replicas French Museum: Icons X-wing and TIE fighters

Ok so reading that article we need a geo physics report done on that parking lot. Then we need to buy some overalls , rent a service truck with some orange flashing lights and a few signs and a jackhammer and dig that parking lot up ASAP.

Who's in?
