Ears on the EFX PCR Din Djarin helmet

Hey folks,
I was lucky enough to buy an EFX PCR helmet for a very acceptable price with the intention of repainting it completely to make an as accurate as possible Din Djarin costume as I can possibly sew for my other half.

I've noticed the ears on the PCR are quite fat and not nearly as slim as the series shows them to be. I've seen several posts on here and on various build groups that people have removed and replaced the ears for more accuracy, but no clues as to what's used to replace them with.

Any 3d files, links, hints or suggestions what to replace the ears with?

Greatape studios and chameleonFX have incredible helmets, and seems like those two guys are the most popular in the community

Might want to try reaching out to them, see if they’ll resin print you just the ears?

To match the finish is going to be tough..

I have seen the “ear issue” and to be honest I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, I think it’s a great looking replica

That's a great suggestion, I'll see if their ears fit the helmet as they're both much slimmer.

We actually have the EFX Fiberglass helmet, but the color looks incredibly dark, keeping that one boxed up for now. Unfortunately we actually lost one we bought in the mailing process, so felt it was a better idea to get a PCR and get it shipped for free to a friend in the US to have it painted with alumaluster. But here we are with the ears

So one thing I will tell you, and the mando guys are probably going to jump all over me for this, because I always encourage to try and do things yourself and don’t want this taken the wrong way

But the painting process is very very “critical”. To match the color of efx I think is going to be a chore…

And the ears have to be masked off in areas and more coats applied to give it that “in-depth 2 Tone look”

I’m not saying you can’t do this or it can’t be done, but really suggest you read everything there is on thedented helmet about spraying alumaluster.. it is a very “finicky” and “Critical” application

Maybe others have used duralumen which can be found on Etsy or graphite powder rub down

The graphite powered process is probably the cheapest and easiest..

Again; I’m no expert, but I have researched this paint process for almost a year now and talked to many many talented artists on here and the dented helmet on how to apply this stuff

I will tell you, myself.. I am wicked intimated by this alumaluster process… maybe I’m over thinking and over reacting.. but I’m being truthful

To me, I wouldn’t touch the ears, I would leave it as is and commission someone like Jon stark on Facebook/Instagram to do a helmet, this way all the colors match and the helmet is spot on

By the time you buy years, buy a spray gun, buy the black paint, 2k clear, alumaluster.. you’re well over 150 bucks.. I’ve seen some beautiful helmets sell for 250

Again I don’t want this post coming off negative or discouraging, I have always tried to push people to tackle and do things themselves

I just don’t want to see you take this apart; invest money into the ears and end up not happy

Either way, PLEASE keep me posted on your decisions and progress pics

maybe you can kick me that kick in the @&& and get me to try it myself

I’m scared though… will someone hold my hand?

I had to replace the vent and ears on an EFX cast. It was a long time back but if I remember correctly, Great Ape’s vent is actually very close to the right size already. You can load it in a slicer like Chitubox and just scale it to the measurements from the EFX vent.

The ears are a little harder, but doable. I think I had to reduce the width a bit, but I don’t remember if it needed anything else. Chamanleon’s ears might be closer

That's what we usually try to do, but the paint is very weather dependent and all the painting has to go outside on a balcony, not the most ideal conditions for painting such a delicate paint. I don't mind weathering it at all, especially since that means I can match it to the other parts, but painting it outside doesn't seem like a great idea. I'll stick to sewing/leather working and some weathering :)

Thank you for the advice! We're going to see if we can make these fit on the helmet as the general sculpt is quite nice and the size is perfect as well :)
