Early Millennium Falcon Pics

Thanks Stu!

Pretty successful weekend. I bought 4 more models(amazingly, the hobby shop I go to stocked a couple 1/48 bandai models and 1/35 Nichimo). Mold and cast a few parts. Worked on the LEDs. Work on the upper jaw a bit, alot of parts I need to sort through my greeble bucket to finish it.

God, that is a thing of beauty!. How long has it taken you to get to this point mate?.
It's just jaw-dropping to see someone do this model.
Have you primarily used kit parts or mostly castings?
Sorry, too many questions, I'll just enjoy the pics.

Hi,

Looking good! - Can I ask if those two sections at the top are the Nichimo 1/35 Elefant?. I've been looking at a number of other makes but not seen a match. As Nichimo crops up alot it seemed a reasonable hunch.

On my thread someone advised that those 4 bracket type parts that run down the middle are retaining clips for tank barrels. Is that right co's I've not seen anything yet that matches??

Good luck with the build :) hope I can follow on behind you soon with mine...

Cheers
Nick

Thanks Stu!

@ stu: thanks! Technically I started this back in 07. Ive been casually building this. Since then, I've moved twice, got married, son was born, and worked full time as well as school full time. It wasn't till late last year I really started attacking this thing.

Most of the parts are original. I only cast parts if the kit is really expensive or need multiples like the m8, Hummel, etc.

@ nick: yup. You are correct in assuming it's the nichimo kit. As for the brackets, they are from the 1/12 Ferrari. 312b I believe. I have both the b and t, I'll hVe to check when I get home.

Don't worry, I'm sure yours will be there soon. Remember to show pics! My regret is not taking early construction pics of mine. There seems to be alot of interests in building the 5 footer recently. I have a pic I took awhile back on how I planned on building the hull. I'll post itwhen I het home from work. It took the guessing out of planning the hull measurements.

Remember, this is a huge undertaking. It took me weeks, if not months, on planning construction. I figured out wieght and how to reinforce the hull for landing rears or flight display. DO NOT USE ONLY STYRENE! Just not strong enough if you want to keep it hollow so you can add elecrtonics . Too much will just wiegh it down. I'm pretty strong and have a 6 foot wingspan and let me tell you...it's a b*tch to flip something this big by yourself(especially when there's no place to grab when to have the plating on). It took 2 ilmers to carry it, 4 to lift in to place of filming mount.

I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from building one, in fact I think it would be kinda cool to have a 5 foot builders club! :). Just make sure you know what you're getting into.

Happy building!!!!

Yes , you make great points and advise on it for sure. It's good you are doing a kind of walk-thru for us. I am saving images and taking notes so that if I ever get to build this beast I will have some answered questions as I go.

I think it's great that you share and are helpful. I am learning since getting back into this after so many years , that a few people are secretive over parts, measurements and knowledge. To me it seems strange because you first have to have the money to " get " the materials and then build.

I applaud the builders who help newer members and understand where we are coming from.

Hi,

Thanks for the confirm on the Nichimo. Good to know my spider-sense is still working!

You've puzzled me a bit with those brackets though. See pic here. I had gathered the orange part here was from the 312B ( which I have, but its in storage so I can't get at it -aarrgh) however are you saying that the top part shown here in yellow is also from the Ferrari?

Cheers
Nick

I'm off in three hours, so I'll let you know in four. ;)

But I'm pretty sure its a 1/12 Ferrari. Whether it's the b or t.

You're welcome James.

Just remember, I'll help out, but sometimes part of the fun in studio scaling is build discovery.

Found it! 312B sprue "D" parts 35

Heres what I promised.
I laid out the parts as they appear. I made a "rough" SS drawing on a 4x8 sheet of styrene. I then super-imposed the parts over the correct area. Made a few adjustments till it "fit". Cut out the patterns.

I understand the kit parts laid out , but how do you get the depth of the center . I can see the sides and all around with kit parts but it seems the depth would be tricky or a good guess ?

Thanks mate. Those bits have been bugging me for a while. To have both sections come from the 312B has made my day ( yup, I'm that pathetic). One less darn kit to have to get! :)

Re: Building the 5' Millennium Falcon

Finally taking shape.

Still reworking the mandibles and need to finish adding armor plating on the cockpit tube and the cone itself. I'm, most likely, going to make the mandibles removable with prong type connectors for easier relocating(upstairs in my office or anywhere else). Install the pods.

After that...the hull will be completed! YAY!:)

I call this "Mandibles 2.0"
My original ones were off my 1/2" in hole placement. Cant have that...so I started making new ones.

Glued tubing to another piece of acrylic to make my jig for the access areas.

You can tell who the true maniacs around here are. IMO, they're the ones who are willing to discard a great deal of hard work and start over when they discover a mistake that 99.999999% of the extant human population would never, ever so much as notice.

Here's to that other .000001%...

Looking awesome!

I would love to view the Star Wars archives site, but it's closed to new members.

What is it with closed memberships?
