One of the better known blueprint authors, Roberto Baldassari, figured the Eagle would need to be 102' long in order to best scale with the practical sets. This gives a length a little over 25" in 1/48 scale. The more 'bandied about' length is ~88' or (yes, you guessed it) 22" in 1/48. In reality, this seems to have derived from the simple fact that 1/24 Revell Gemini astronaut figures were used in the 44" long hero filming model! So, typical of these situations, if the analysis is done to actually link the model features to the full size sets, you get Roberto's asserted length and a scale of 1/28th for the 44" model, leaving the 22" model to be 1/56th scale. However, since there was a 22" (half-sized) filming model, the kit will end up being a studio scale model, especially if the details match it and not the 44" version. Hey, that is nearly the same scale as the Aurora Moonbus, right?
Lordy, lordy... I'm such a geek! ;^P I'm still getting one... scale be $%)@!
