Eagle Transporter 22" from Round 2 OUT NOW!!! Jan '16

Re: Eagle Transporter 22" coming November from Round 2

What??????

I was making a joke regarding "limited attention spans" by saying "What were we talking about again"? Then I added a laughing emoticon to underline the fact that it was "supposed" to be funny or slightly amusing. I guess I failed.

No, I failed because I was playing along and forgot so I said "what"? What are we talking about again.....

Eagles! That's what were talking about! Yeah! Big 22 freakin inches of Eagles!!!

Re: Eagle Transporter 22" coming November from Round 2

Sorry, didn't mean to imply any personal shortcomings for FB users! My point is the 'constant pressure from the top' pushes stuff 'down' the timeline, and then out of sight (so even if you have a 'long attention span' it is still gone unless you start 'digging'.) The more 'friends', the higher the content flow, the faster the expiration. This is a feature of FB (not the users!) It makes it somewhat a poor tool for items that require persistence in the web-space. Again, "ephemeral" in nature.

But, gladly my comment generated some mirth - for which I am grateful! ;^P

Turn-to, carry on ship's work.

Regards, Robert

Strangely, nothing on the Round 2 website about this kit.

Round2 is re-designing the website so you won't see anything there for a while, straight from Jamie Hood of Round2 Models! proto4.jpg

Re: Eagle Transporter 22" coming November from Round 2

Here I am holding the prototype 1/48 eagle at WonderFest 2015! Mr. Jamie Anderson also has the prototype!

Re: Eagle Transporter 22" coming November from Round 2

Hey, not to stir a pungent pot, but what is the consensus on the size of the "real" Eagle craft? I vaguely recall an analysis of the apparent size based on design features and the set sizes (where have I seen that sort of thing before - ha! Ship of riddles, eh?) I was trying to verify the "scale" of a resin kit that someone was offering a while back... Eagletransporter.com forum, perhaps... I'm digging hoping to find those resources again, now that "nice" kit may be within reach.

The Warp kit,....which is Resin & white metal (if thats the one you're thinking of),....along with the old Airfix/MPC & Round 2 re-issue from last year are 1/72

Here are a few words from Jamie Hood of Round2 Models, this may answer some of your questions.

Round 2 Models: Wonderfest 2015 Space:1999 Eagle Announcement

This year’s Wonderfest will be one to remember for me I’m sure. It may rival the shows where we announced or showed our 1:350 scale TOS U.S.S. Enterprise. The trip was fun all around. Instead of doing one long post about the show, I’m going to split up some topics through a few posts and I’ll put them up over the next few weeks. (no… really… I mean it this time. I’ve already written them. I just need to “publish” them…) I’ll cover the “big news” in this one.
I think most attendees were (happily) surprised to see the main attraction at our booth this year was a mockup of our upcoming Space:1999 Eagle Transporter. It’s a bit shy of 22” long and is based on the 44” filming miniature. Our team of consultants on the kit is comprised of Jim Small, Daniel Prud’homme who supplied the CAD model and Chris Trice. The model features spring-loaded landing gear and comes injected in white and gray with clear windows. The only interior details will be the pilot figures with a back wall in the nosecone. The retail price is targeted at about $100, but that will vary by retailer. I understand some have already started taking preorders. I’ll post more pics of the mockup later on.
One other thing to mention… Some people get confused when they see “subject to licensor review” like they saw on the little sign next to the mockup. In some cases, we put that statement on there voluntarily and sometimes it is required by the licensor. The true meaning of that can vary, but it essentially means what it says. The licensor has the right to review the product and can ask for changes from what you see. It has nothing to do with “permission” to make a product. The licensor is aware that it is being developed, and the rights to manufacture it have already been resolved through the licensing agreement. In an ideal world, the licensor would have had a chance to review it before we put it on display, but in this particular case the mockup arrived on my desk about a week before the show. Since I was busy prepping for that I never had time to properly photograph it to send to the licensor for their approval of it.

J, there was *another* 22" Eagle in resin, though cannot recall the maker. The thing that 'stuck' in my mind is that there was a related discussion about whether it was 1/48 scale or not. I still have not back tracked that info, but most of it was related to how the full sized features presented some practical difficulties (similar to the TOS Star Trek Galileo shuttle "prop" set dimensional issues...) I suppose we just need to learn to ignore such anomalies and get on with enjoying the modeling! ;^)

PS: I found the Scale discussion on the Space1999.net website (http://catacombs.space1999.net/main/cguide/umeaglescale.html) if anyone is interested.

There were also 22" and 44" AB Models eagle and Hawk kits along with a Replicas Unlimited kit of both Hawk and eagle also 1/48 scale! I currently have a 22" AB and RU eagle kit in build status! The Warp kits are 1/72 and are the most accurate at that scale!

Re: Eagle Transporter 22" coming November from Round 2

So, no one made a 25" 1:48 scale Eagle then?

Not that I have ever seen! There are some individuals building different size eagles but never a kit to my knowledge. The RU Hawk is a little longer than it should be from what I have heard! But that's all I know at this point.

Re: Eagle Transporter 22" coming November from Round 2

One of the better known blueprint authors, Roberto Baldassari, figured the Eagle would need to be 102' long in order to best scale with the practical sets. This gives a length a little over 25" in 1/48 scale. The more 'bandied about' length is ~88' or (yes, you guessed it) 22" in 1/48. In reality, this seems to have derived from the simple fact that 1/24 Revell Gemini astronaut figures were used in the 44" long hero filming model! So, typical of these situations, if the analysis is done to actually link the model features to the full size sets, you get Roberto's asserted length and a scale of 1/28th for the 44" model, leaving the 22" model to be 1/56th scale. However, since there was a 22" (half-sized) filming model, the kit will end up being a studio scale model, especially if the details match it and not the 44" version. Hey, that is nearly the same scale as the Aurora Moonbus, right?

Lordy, lordy... I'm such a geek! ;^P I'm still getting one... scale be $%)@!

No, its good that theres people who know what there talking about,....brilliant

Yes, Roberto did a fine bit of reverse engineering with his blueprints, from what I've seen.

Sounds like the Star trek TOS Shuttlecraft which has two sizes given - because the full size exterior doesn't/can't match the full size interior.

A problem also common with the Millennium Falcon and the Proteus and Jupiter 2 and the etc etc

Re: Eagle Transporter 22" coming November from Round 2

Attention all sections alpha, I have some good news! After some thought about the cockpit CM back wall decal, the team decided to try and put together a 3-D wall without using a decal. So what they have worked out is the picture you see here. First of all, it is important to note that this is not quite finalized and there is still some tweaking to do. Also the color is just to illustrate. The part will be molded in one piece, one color and yes you have to paint it. They originally decided it would just be flat with a decal but wanted something better. This is what they came up with and the 3-D model was then created by Daniel Prud'homme. The second photo is what you saw at WonderFest. Also the CG render has some strange artifacting going on that will not be on the final product. This is the group of people bringing us the best eagle model ever! They listen and go to work to see if it can be done! The Round2 crew have done a spectacular job and I just don't think this will be the last time you hear that from me or the model builders of the world!
