E.T. Starship model

WOW, I'm very impressed of this! :thumbsup
I was so scared as a kid...ET was my nightmare for a long time :D now I love it

Haha life (and work) has gotten in the way, the last I touched it was beginning of September. :)

VERY LITTLE accomplished. Plan was to build a quick low-poly 3d model with estimated scaling of pieces, figure out what scaling (and detail) issues needed to be adjusted, and then start over a fresh hi-def model using my first one as a guide. I'm sure there's probably a better way to approach modeling, but for me two models actually saves a lot of 'one step forward, thirty-five steps back' labor.

Haha I don't really want to post this, but here's a render I saved from 7/28, shortly after starting the 'guesstimate' model. I already see problems (the side ports look huge to me) that will get changed in the final... Anyways, yours will hopefully get me motivated to continue with this, I obviously cared about the idea of building a studio scale version enough to save the humble beginnings :lol

**edit*** also, stupid question, but are the 'feet' of your craft concave, or flat? I left this project off making those, and made mine concave to follow the shape of the hull if they were retracted... Flat would make more sense for footing when extended, but my OCD wanted those suckers to fit flush with the hull when flying :lol

Hi everyone. So it’s nine years later, October 15th, 2022 and I’ve finally finished my build of a studio-scale ET ship replica. I’m not a professional model maker but I did the best I could. I had the help and advice from my friends. It has

3D printed parts. Resin and metal. It’s as accurate to the actual hero model as I could make it. Here’s a few photos. Hope you like. It’s 32 inches tall and 18 inches in diameter.

I wanted to add that Lael Lee designed the 3D printed parts I used in my build. Lael would listen to my notes and make many of the corrections/adjustments I wanted. He did an amazing job and was a dream to work with.

You may not be a professional model maker, but you have made an impressive replica, really good (y)
The dimensions, shapes, and colors used are very exact to the original miniature.
I've also always wanted to make my E.T. spaceship.

Congratulations Alan

Thank you so much for your kind words. I apologize for my late reply. This is the first time in weeks that I’ve checked in on the RPF. I just now saw your post. Thanks, Toromodel. I encourage you to make your won ET ship someday. It was a lovely adventure.
