dyeing dark leather green

Hi guys got a New project but struggling to find right colour base.
I have found a perfect black leather jacket and an almost perfect brown leather jacket.
Is there a way I can turn either or even both green with leather dye.
I want to avoid that horrible shiny look I have seen when people paint there leather.
Have searched around not found much info on the matter.

I found an interesting product - it basically says it can restain leather to any colour no matter the base



my job was easier though - cos I had a white base; but the product leaflet says it shouldnt make a big difference



I also used it on a tan belt to make it yellow



it does take several layers to get smooth though. Typically 4-6

Your white jacket actually looks like a good base for my suit lol where did you get it.
Intresting about the dye how was the effect after did it rub off at all or go shiny?

Coat waa charity shop score looks like old 70s design

Dye - i was worried too. But no rub off. A bit shiny. But i buffed it and rubbed down a bit

What shade of green? If a very dark green then a leather dye will work- I highly recommend Fiebing

You can't dye lighter, you can paint over to go lighter though, and that's not usually a problem.

I'd recommend an acrylic based paint, heck even acrylic spray paint will work as it is flexible, if you can't get a flexible urethane paint. http://www.fiebing.com/catalogue/dyes/?product=180
Fiebing's Acrylic dye does have pigments in it to cover the surface, but I haven't used them myself- I like to mix my own shades with plain pigments and various mediums.

Resolene may work as well, mixed with pigments to the right tone.

Sorry, I again haven't used them but I have used other products that do the same. Definitely invest in cleaners and cloths to clean- it'll possibly take a bit more elbow grease than at first appears
