I'm no embroidery professionel, but imo you should try to work on the length of the stitches - the stitches on the original seem a lot longer than in your or steadys scorpion.
Second, there should be only one layer of thread (except the areas with darker colour - there it looks like double layers). You can clearly see the fabric underneath, shining through. My mom used to own a home emroidery machine back in the 80s which did bad stitching just like that.
So either try to get hold of an old semi professional machine or program the big machine to just do one thin layer, like a foundation or background layer.
