Dredd (Post-release)

I wonder if it might have done better at the beginning of summer instead of the end.

Just saw it tonight, in 3D. I really enjoyed it. I had 1 problem with it.... Finding it in a theater! I really wanted to see it in the theater, so I did a search, and couldn't find a theater in Chicago playing it.. IN CHICAGO! I finally found it in 2 theaters about 30 miles away.

I enjoyed it. I totally see why seeing it in 3D was almost a must. Loved the sound track. I'll be buying it on Blu-ray.

Well, they are up on Amazon for pre-order, as well as the Danish site I use to buy from, but nothing on extra features, even on the back side of the covers.

Huh. that's fast. I'd hold off on pre-ordering until I knew whether there'd be multiple versions and what the special features are.

I think you're safe in the "multiple versions" department. There is literally no holding back in this film when it comes to the violence. You even see glimpses of people being skinned alive! If there was going to be an unrated version, it'd play out the same way as Bloodrayne 3. i.e. Not one single difference.

Give this lovely lady a pre-order and enjoy. I already have.

I was not worried about the film itself coming out in different versions, but more if a later version comes with a butt-load of extra features, such as commentary and documentaries and such, in case this first one is rather bare bones. I'd love to support this movie and I won't wait until it drops in price, as I want to support it and think it is good enough to buy at the initial price. Just don't like having to buy it twice.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Teh film's the film, but if one version has commentary and the other doesn't, or one version includes some other cool stuff and the other doesn't, I'd want to be sure to get the fully loaded version. I've been "double-dipped" too often.

How many versions of T2 are we up to now? :lol

I finally saw this movie, this week, and thought it was frakking fantastic. I remember waiting each week for 200AD to arrive, back in the 70's(please bear in mind comics back then took 3 months to be shipped(yes shipped, not flown)) from pommieland to New Zealand. And I loved Judge Dredd.
Stallones film was dross, the fiorst thing they frakked up was we NEVER saw Dredd's face, and it went steadily downhill from there.
The 2012 version, as far as I am concerned nailed it.
Yip there was violence, bloodshed, a bit more violence, maybe some more bloodshed, but hell, I returned to my teens, and saw on the screen, what my minds eye saw when I read the 2000AD comics
Now if only they could get the ABC Warriors, Johhny Alpha, The Strontium Dag, and Jim DiGriz, The Stainless Steel Rat to the big screen, I would be a happy little vegemite

Seconded...classic Strontium Dog too - Johnny Alpha and Wulf out on the road doing space bounty hunter things. Middenface or someone along for the ride. None of this Johnny dies/Wulf dies/everyone dies crap.

Loved the movie. Not a fan of the design but overall about a thousand times better than expected.

Someone check for a pulse...

Really? Just because i disagree with the majority concensus?

Dredd just felt like a fan-film to me. It didn't do anything for me. Maybe if it had been bigger in scale, more fx, and felt like a 2000 ad strip, i would have liked it.

But i didn't.

I wanted a more Cam Kennedy or Ezquerra Megacity 1, but the production values were a lot higher than I expected and the direction and action were really good, so I got over myself and enjoyed it for that. Anything but a fan-film...I've still yet to see a fan-film that doesn't make me cringe.

I thought that it looked... ok. I felt that Megacity One didn't look anywhere near futuristic enough. It looked ok in the distant shots, but walking the streets and things just looked like 'Generic craphole A' from like... five years from now. Even the clothing looked present day.

Can you see characters like Judge Death fitting into the movie world? Even the psychic stuff was kind of weak.

The Judge's bikes were just normal bikes with a plastic shell. Stallone's film did way better. Even the ghastly 'Bat-Pod' looked more Dredd than those.

As I said before, the actors were fine, but they had nothing to do.

The entire movie plot was -

"Go into building. Now go further up building".

It all looked the same. There was no character development at all, really. Was anyone surprised when Dredd accepted Anderson? Was there any doubt at all?

Even Dredd getting shot was fixed in around a minute with no consequence, and even the main villain was no threat.

The drug effect looked good, but they used it a whole bunch too much. Same with the slow-mo shootings. Already seen it in other movies.

I really liked Anderson. She was good.

I'm a little surprised anyone would go into a movie about Judge Dredd expecting serious character development and a deep twisting plot. Maybe I just knew what to expect going in, so I was not terribly let down by what the film was.

Yes, you knew immediately that Dredd was going to pass Anderson. I don't think the writers were trying to fool anybody though.

Yes the bikes had shells. The film makers made a judgement call here. I felt it worked pretty well. I'm not sure hover bikes would have felt right in the world they created.

Yes it wasn't overly futuristic. Again, I was OK with that.

I thought the drug effect was used when it needed to be used for a little artistic narrative. At least they had a reason for it in the story, and didn't over use it for no real reason like 300 or Watchmen.

I could see Judge Death fitting into the world easily.
