Cough cough where's the mother pictures cough cough cough
Hahahaha
O and no worries dude, glad your back at this and got the ball rolling sticking with to the end
Always busting my balls. It's a good thing though, god knows someone needs to do it.
So I'm not super stoked on this update. I still like the snake Idea and think it definitely has potential but it needs some serious tweaking before it's a valid option.
I did a really quick cleaning pull from my UltraCal mold, and that's all I've used for testing so far but I did learn a few important things:
1) The snakes
are very loud. They clank together a lot and it got pretty annoying pretty fast.
2) The snakes
were incredibly heavy.
Can't say that either of those come as a huge shocker
I haven't trimmed them to size yet but I stuck them in the thin pull quickly to see how they looked. The mask is only 1 layer and not foam filled, so It really wasn't able to hold its shape in the slightest- so it was no match for the weight of the snakes and just sort of flopped down on itself. I still think with some rigid foam filling in the crown, and only using the snakes in the outer row of dreads, using backer rod underneath and cutting the snakes way shorter could help both of those problems but it will take some more testing and ingenuity to pull it off.
I need to pull together a basic costume my Friday, so I might have to resort to the good ol' (It pains me to say that) Backer Rod method until I have more time to experiment.
I'd love to see/hear if anyone else has tried this out at all and what they've found. I haven't given up hope on it by any means, it's just going to have to take some tweaking before it becomes a viable option.
Raw Cleaning pull. Lots of airbubbles and imperfections and very thin.
With full length snakes pushed through "X" shaped cuts in the dread holes
I have a few t-shirts balled up in the mask to try and hold the shape a bit, but you can see that the weight of the snakes is deforming the shape of the head and pulling out the latex in the dread holes- turning them from innies to outies. You can also see the sparseness of the dreads, which shows the need for a row or two of backer rods or something underneath them. I still love the look and think they have some potential but at this stage they weren't cooperating very well and were quite uncomfortable.
I'll keep playing once I have a few better pulls of the mask but feel free to share thoughts and suggestions.
