Dragonslayer Props

This forum is fantastic. Its members are a amazing collection of fans and incredible artist. Great movie with an awesome dragon, Vermithrax Pejorative. Ah, the wonders made before CGI. Will have to take a look for my movie program. Great stuff.

Classic spear, based on a much-published Dark Ages prototype, as also used by the Rohirrim. :D It's 'sicarius', by the way. </knowitall>

I'd love the spear. To be really technical the head should be cast, not machined. Bronze probably, can't recall. An iron shaft I think would be period accurate. If you were going to bother with accurate materials this would be one heavy bugger!

I like the spear..have all the dragons :) well all the ones I can find, Greyzon, Martain Metal, that one on the wall as well as the others that Timeslip sold..Love this dragon

Ditto, had no idea there'd been kits of Vermithrax. Awesome. Who made the one agent5 showed? That thing is amazing. Do want!!

You sir have an apt forum handle.

LOL.

For the fluorite, it will have to be those manhandled ones that are cleaved into octahedrons. The natural crystal grows as a cube.

It *often* grows as a cube, but octahedrons are also a common habit. I have four or five of those and they all look natural to me. Cleaved ones would have much cleaner facets, I assume.

Hi all this would be my first post and would like to add something to this.
When this movie was all over HBO back in the early eighties when they actually aired movies all the time and over and over again Dragonslayer was one of them. They had a 45 minute special about the filming on Dragonslayer and at the time this was my favorite movie and it's still on my top 5 list. The special talked about the amulet and how it was made.

The "stone" itself was made of clear resin and I remember seeing many of them on the table in this HBO special. They had a mini light bulb inside the resin stone with wires connected to the bulb, these wires a hot and neg were woven into the necklace to a battery pack. The claw holder was made from pot metal. The amulet used in the smashing scene was made from break-away glass cast into the same mold the resin amulets were made from.

My guess is the resin they used wasn't as clear as the current clear resin available today is. It might have been a clear resin that hardened that color naturally.

Anyone else had the hots for Valerian? being 13 at the time I did.

It sort of looks to be pewter. That should be soft enough to bend around a crystal, I would think.

Yeah, I have one I picked up in an Amazonite claim out in Colorado but I haven't seen them at rock shows in years. But the extra fugly crystal faces is the main reason I pointed the cleaved bit out.

If you have some in better shape then congrats man!

YouTube - About Wireless Power Transfer

Would this work? The coil inside the pendant would be awful small. The casting itself might inhibit the current transfer- Right?

Yup. It would but with a coil that small and having no visible wires you'd have to build a dedicated display box to house the sending coil/antenna.
The obvious problem being when you picked the amulet up it would cease to glow. Kind of a bummer. Your own amulet not liking you.

I think I'd rather have a natural stone and metal amulet and forget about the lighting. I'd like to wear mine!

Great post sabermaster.....I thought clear resin would be the way to go with this. You'll never be able to mass produce these using natural stone keeping it cost efficient. If it's a one off...fine...but if someone is doing a run of these, resin is the way to go.

Like I said before, I still plan on doing a run of these this year.:love:thumbsup

I'll be starting on the sculpts of the Amulet and the Dragon Tooth in the next couple of weeks.
I've acquired about seven of the pale yellow Fluorite Octahedrons that are about the correct size, and plan on getting some more soon. These are pretty rare in the yellow color, which will make the run with the real stone pretty small.

I'll also be casting the Amulet in real 'Silver' with the real Fluorite stone, which will be a limited run.

Although, I'll also be doing another run with the Amulet cast in pot metal and resin stone, which will be cheaper and an Unlimited run. :cool:thumbsup

I am looking at this amulet a lot via DVD. The stone is white quite a few times in non-light mode.

It's still a sculpt. I am trying to match the weave pattern on the ball. After I have it correct in the sculpt, I can force "]" shaped objects to follow the weave paths in 3dsmax. It will look worlds better after I do that.

I guess the white one is the fake resin one. The metal is silver in color on the white version. I dont know why they used it when Ulrich pulled it from the box in the begining. You can see it real good at the end just before it lights up. So I guess I'm looking at the fake one more.

Anybody remember Palpatine in that movie? I didn't realize it until Gino brought it to my attention. :lol

I studied Ian a long time back (without make up) back in the 80s in this role, when I made my 12 inch Emperor for my Star Wars Stop motion movie.

I was 17 then
I love the Dragon Slayer. One of my favouries as well. Has the best designed Dragon in it.

Ah geeze, nooo. I didn't know. Missed this until today...man, losing Sarah Jane Smith today was bad enough, but this poor gal was even younger. Yes, I also had a huge crush, as a kid. Nobody tell me what happened, I don't want to know. :(

I musta misunderstood! Thought you were saying they didn't grow as octahedrons. Sorry!
