Well i really liked the look of this new who monster, as did my son, so i decided to make a display bust of it, it might also work as a mask.
Heres the original

And my version so far, still working on it

Looking for pics of the metalic pieces either side of the head, hard to make out what they are, more to come

The pics of the BBC site show that they're a collection of cogs, but not clear enough to replicate them exactly.

Have you tried taking screencaps from the BBC iPlayer?

Haven't tried that, i'll have a looksee, i thought it was hair at first till i got a closer pic of it, i'll be adding them to the finished head anyway as separate resin pieces, so at least i can finish the head sculpt
just noticed the top of the head needs rounding more, allways good to step away from a sculpt, you notice all the flaws more easily

Well i spent another half hour or so on it today, playing catch up with a lot of projects that need finishing.
Happier with the overall shape of the head now, still needs more work then smooth it all out before the detailing starts

Looks good.

The one thing I noticed (though it's no biggie and could easily be left as is) is that that bottom corners of the mouth look like they could do with coming out wider. The right (as you look at it) corner of the mouth on your reference pic appear to stretch out past the outside edge of the eyes. Could just be the angles though.

RPF member 'fettster' sculpted the original. Might be worth asking for his input. He might have pictures of his original sculpt which would be easier to see the detail on rather than the finished painetd prop.

Looking great!
Loved it when I saw this character on screen.
Glad to see someone's attempting this one.
Can't wait to see more.

Just so you know... the "cog" detail was only on the right temple. the reason you can see it either side on your reference is because its on the face at the back of the head ready to spin round so unless you do the other face, dont sculpt it on either side.

the temple area was just made up from some model tank parts and some sheet wax.

ill need to check if its ok to post pics

This is incredible and I love that some one here was the creator of it.

Frosty that piece is turning out amazing. I love it. Though I think one should be done that you can wear and has a little flap in the teeth so you could stick your tongue out at some one :D :eek :D

sorry could not resist and the joke of it would be priceless

Fettster, thanks for making such an awesome piece for the show.

Yup, now it's aired it's cool to post pix - Just be aware of other, unrelated, projects that may be going on in the background of your shots. Just obscure if necessary.

Thanks for the heads up on the cog detail, any pics you can share i'd appreciate it, the tongue sticking outs a good idea, lol
Thanks again
