Heya ^^

Does anyone have any good images of the Hitchhikers Guide Of the Galaxy from the film? I thought that it would be a nice present for my girlfriend (who's favourite series is Hitchhiikers) to get the ultamate book set (where all the books are compliled into one) and then face it to look like the Guide from the film. Any help with this project would be much appreciated :)

Thanks
Pinky

Yep, im making one as a one year anniversery present for my Girlfriend :) Im intending to make it a hindged box and then place the Ultimate Hitchkiers book in it. Ive looked into the flat led's but it depends on my money situation at the time as they are failry expensive.

Amazon's Kindle and Kindle 2, with their ability to wirelessly access Wikipedia, are about the closest thing to The Hitchhiker's Guide around. All you need to do is find a way to emboss/engrave/attach/paint the HHG symbol and "Don't Panic" on the leather-like cover (in large friendly letters, not the scary block letters often seen - no offense contec) and you've really got it made.

I printed them out and attached them with double stick tape to the cover of my wife's Kindle, and she got a good laugh out of it. I've been playing with some ideas on how to make this more permanent.

I just made mine as the movie version. I think it looks friendly.

You could always use EL sheet...:)

Well im hoping to get it as close to the movie version as possible but of course it all depends on how big the ultimate paperback is :)
So what is EL sheet?
I will make sure to post pictures when done!

Thanks

Hmm they are quite affordable. I have to get this project done by the 9th May so i will leave the option of electronics open but i may not have time!

I may ask for the gift back to intall them though if the main book turns out particulary well :lol I will give it back to her though promise!

Thanks
Pinky:)

Did anyone else look at tackling this? Been listening to the soundtrack and watched the movie again today and Think a movie version of the book would be awesome, especially if when you open it up it has the EL sheets in it.

Im currently in the planning stages of making my own copy of the Guide with the suggested EL sheet. Im also planning for my copy to have a provision for interchangable acetate sheets so as one can change the content on the display!

This is still sitting on my 'To do' list and I have a bunch of notes/etc in a box folder. I spent way too long looking to see if there is a way to make a seamless hinge (as it appears in the movie) and in the end decided that no there isn't, especially if you want the smooth screen inside. Therefore I intend to make two static props - one open one closed. I'll either go with the EL Sheet method or maybe a digital picture frame... if the measurements matched up. Time will tell.

i personally am opting for a dual screen set up like the nintendo DS, while not screen accurate, I will still end up with a decent facsimile.

Does anyone know...wait, dumb question...let me rephrase this...would anyone who knows which fonts were used for the "Don't Panic" on the cover and the "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" on the spine be willing to share that information with those of us (okay, me) who don't know? And maybe the overall dimensions of the Guide itself? :D

BTW Contec, beautiful work! Come to think of it...does anyone else think that would have been a great packaging idea for the dvd?
