Re: Test build (a slow one): Star Trek U.S.S. Grissom
HUGE update.
Sam from Bigger Box Models came over today to help me start building this ship. After all, it is his baby.
Anyhow, we were trying to figure out a good dry dock to build this in that will not only keep it upright, but protect it at the same time. We went to Home Depot and came up with this:
Yeah, it's taped together for now, but tomorrow I will drill holes in it to connect the two parts together with bolts. We're figuring with all the parts to do this, it will be around twelve dollars at Home Depot.
I ended up using my dremel and my rotozip to make room for my wrench to get in to tighten the nuts on the shoulders (odd sentence). My suggestion to you is to remove that whole inner part. Here's a pic that I took after I went at the part with my dremel:
Shoulders on (pic took before I went at this part with power tools. Therefore the shoulders came off to hollow the section out):
Test fit the hull:
First part of the saucer section on:
Second part:
Saucer attached to the hull:
The back detail part goes on:
Now the lower parts. I'm sorry that I didn't take more pics of this process. We just started lining stuff up and before we knew it we were done.
Then we thought it would be cool to dry fit the lower and upper parts of the ship:
Ha ha, I think it was a good idea!
Next come the nacelles. Front detail on:
Then, I know we've seen the Coke Can for judging size. Well, here's the Corona Bottle to test size. LOL
Anyhow, this thing is 32.5 inches from front to back.
That's all until tomorrow!
